I picked up this game for ten bucks in the "bargain" (bargain my ass) bin about a year ago cause it was a PS One "Greatest Hit" (greatest hit my ass). I had played it when it was new, and it was okay, but I didn't buy it cause: it sucks. so after I bought it, i played it for a few weeks, then I quit playing it cause: it sucks. So I started playing again about a week ago, and I remember why i stopped playing back then: it sucks.

First off, the game is just too damn difficult. I play video games a lot, and I can't think of a game that's given me this much frustration. Maybe I'm at a disadvantage cause I'm an Aires and this game dorks around with that sign compatibility crap? i dunno. there are just too many enemies in each battle, and they are too powerful for my characters (who are pretty strong tehmselves, high 30s to mid 40s in chapter one or two, I don't remember).

Every thing MISSES! attack spells, healing spells, physical attacks, everything. I'll spend four or fiverounds trying to raise a dead ally with my priestess, and eventually he'll turn into a crystal (cause all teh raise dead attempts miss) and the enemies who've been attacking my preistess for teh last few rounds kill her. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME MISSES!

When I use items to heal, it just delays the inevitable, almost as soon as theyuse the item to heal, they're attacked and just lose the HP they just regained.

I have characters who should be just plain awesome:
*A knight with samurai abilities (my main character). He does pretty good physical attacks, but hiw weakness? he pretty much cannot heal (the samurai abilities are weak and don't heal enough) and like I said, every time I try to heal him with my priestess, she MISSES.

*A Lancer with the item ability. also really good with attacking, but like my knight, lots of MISSED attacks and can't really heal; though this is slightly negated by the item ablility, he suffers the item using problem mentioned above.

*A priestess with time magc too, like I said, she's completely useless cuse she can't heal, revive, or haste sh*t. I gave her the teleport ability
theoreticaly, it would be good, cause she could teleport to someone pretty much anywhere and heal. except that she CAN'T heal anyone or anything, and she can't teleport two spaces without it failing.

*A monk with the summon ability. his physical attacks are weak, and so are his summons. also suffers from Cannot-be-healed syndrom.

*an archer with black magic. she should be able to both attack and cast magic from the back row, but her weak-ass (when they do hit) bow attacks almost always MISS, and her relatively weak spells usually MISS too.

the story looks pretty good, but these drawbacks far outweigh even the best story.

And don't tell me this is cause I'm a noob or I don't know how to play, cause I do, and like I said, I've been playing this game for the last 5 or so years (and still haven't beat this peice of sh*t).

I'm done ranting for now, for two reasons.

1) I'm busy contemplating how to destroy this game disc.

2) I HATE COMPUTERS. It's taken me over an hour to type this post, because LITERALY every other word got interrupted by pop-ups. I don't get spam, but I get loads of pop-ups, almost all of tehm for pop up blockers! I know how to stop my pop ups! Firebomb the headquarters of these pop-up blocker companies! that'll take care of 97% of the internets popups.

thanks for listening

I loved this game. When it came out, I said if FF VII was like a good movie, FFT was like a good book. I agree that it is hard, though. And there is a sudden, major leap in difficulty at the end. I went into the final battle and died many many times. Finally, I managed to get past that fight only to realize there was another immediately after, so I didn't have a chance to heal, re-stock, etc. After tremendous frustration and multiple attempts, I got past the second battle (having to play though both on each attempt)-- only to discover it led to a third immediately after. I finally looked for help in a game guide and it said "Don't even try this battle until you are level 50". I went back and checked my character and saw that I was level 29. (I am guessing at the numbers-- it was a long time ago. I just remember being about 22 levels lower than they said was the minimum.) I was mad, because my only other save point was like 8 hours earlier, but I was also proud that I had done 2/3 of the battle with characters that the strategy guide considered vastly underpowered. Yay, me.
This was a great game, but you just have to really think out your strategies and build good characters.

I just can't understand why you played this game for so long when you weren't enjoying it.

Try downloading the pop-up blocker here. I downloaded it last week sometime, and it's blocked ALL pop-ups.

Like I said, the story is kinda interesting (although slow paced, thanks to the frequent replaying of batles over and over and over). that's why I still try to play it. plus, I enjoy the cahracter customization.

thanks for the pop up blocker.

Yea, I played Tactics a few times myself, wasn't that bad actually. I'll admit the only thing I found annoying to a high degree was how hard some of the battles were. I only remember the beginning battles being really hard, but turn based combat is always like that in games, you can't blame Tactics for that. I'll admit I usually get pissed off because I keep missing all the time while my opponent is beating the life out of me. Like I said, Tactics is not the only game to do that.

Other than that, good story to back it up, even if it didn't have the best graphics.

Gangrell, sounds like basicaly the same problem I have. except not as bad.

I enjoy the story, and I could care less what the graphics opf any game looks like so long as it's enjoyable.

I'm at the end of chapter 3 I guess, my characters are strong, heve the best equipment, and have mastered at least two classes. Yet, I cannot beat Velius. I'd say it's a hell of a jump in difficulty.

Yea, I'll agree with you there. Take the first Grandia game for instance, not the best graphics in the world because it was made in the earlier days of the PS1. But still had a great story and a good combat system. As long as a game has a good storyline and good characters, I don't really care about graphics either.

Hmm, chapter 3, well, to be honest my mind is really foggy on Tactics because it's been so long since I've played it. The few times I did play it, I kept running into one part that was insane for me to beat because my characters weren't that strong I don't think. I remember the fight too, against a knight, and there were archers aligned ontop of the building with a wizard infront of you. That's about as far as I got before I nearly broke the game
