Hey all since coming to this site i have heard of the game Planescape Torment, cant believe i havent heard of it before BUT i was just wondering is it any good? it looks....different, is this difference from BG and the like worthwhile? By all this i mean would you recommend that i invest in a copy or not? Please if ya could give us an honest opinion on the game and your personal pros and cons that'll be great.
Cheers

If you prefer plot, NPC interaction and roleplaying over hack and slash combat, planescape is for you. If you like the combat side more, youd be better off with Icewind.

Cheers for that , yeah i wouldnt mind checking it out actually as long as its not like icewind dale thats fine...never got into that, i think its mainly the banter and the character relationships that i missed giving the game a somewhat personal touch you know what i mean? "go explore this dungeon and kill a horde of creatures AGAIN" kinda gets a bit annoying after awhile.

well that basically completley went off topic, anyway can anyone give me a description of the game and what its like, battle system, time and setting, characters etc, without the spoilers of course

Battle system is BG2 without the complexity. Combat is really secondary in this game, so quest rewards are more often information or a stat bonus than battle gear.

Spells, I never spent much time with, but its a lot like BG2 again.

Characters, let me put it this way. Not a one of them could walk through athkatla without attacting comment. No humans, elves, dwarves, halflings or kobolds to be found among the recruitable NPCs. They are all richly developed, all of them have tons of banters and they are basicaly the best bunch of NPCs in any game, Ever.

The setting is Planescape, specificaly Sigil for the most part. It is a lot darker than the Forgotten Realms. Nalia never got given the protagonists intestines to carry. Such occurences are common in Sigil. It is set before BG2 as far as anyone can tell, but there is no overlap between the two so it dosent matter.

I second what andrewas said. Ps:T has one of the best and most interresting plots ever which is closely connected to the PC in a way that I've never seen before. It als boasts some colourful NPC and you can also talk to your party members and learn more about them.

Here's a review of PS:T from Gamespot:

Big hint...if you really want to experience all of the plots and quest xp from the game, jack up your mental stats (Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma) over your physical stats (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution). This makes the mage probably the best class to play in the game (magic just rocks in the game...great special effects).

Planescape torment is great.

Its practically a work of art. It has more than a book length of reading.

Sort of derivative of DAntes inferno. It just gets better as it goes also. Starts off a little confusing but whats so great is that by the end you understand it all.

Light Bulb

I am still amazed that there are people who haven't got the word on Planescape: Torment.

Hæ hæ!!

I'll buy Planescape: Torment soon (I think). Just can't be bothered playing (finishing) BG1 at the moment (sounds odd).
