Hello,
I like to play roguelike games a lot (mostly ADOM and NETHACK), but I dimly remember a roguelike in pseudo-3d, having a first person view (including man-sized X's and O's coming at you)... Since I saw it well about six or so years back I can't remember its name... or is it just a fever dream of mine? any idea anyone? thanks anyway - even for flaming me ![]() Thalmos

It's called Thief. They made a sequel by the way.

There was also a game from SSI called "Dungeon Hack". It is nethack in 3d (graphics are like the Eye of the Beholder-Series) with AD&D 2nd rules. I tried the game out, but the original nethack is way more innovative.

Nethack is good !! You can download it at www.nethack.org for free. On the first glance it seems a little bit like diablo (at least the gaming prinziple, of course not the graphics) but on the second glance there are lots of jokes and gimmiks in the game and it makes big fun to discover them all.
I could write pages of things to dicover, but try out the game by yourself. BTW, there are several modes of the game. The LINUX and Windows-versions have a graphics interface, other versions are only ascii. Chris |

Thanks so far, your posts have helped quite a lot (at least for clearing the fog in my brain
![]() BUT: which company developed THIEF or where can I get it? the big prob is the search engines... the combination "thief roleplaying games roguelike" yields TONS of matches.... *G* btw: I know Dungeon Hack and that its re-released in the so called "forgotten realms collection"... BUT this collection was never released in europe (in germany, to be precise) so its nearly impossible to get it legally ![]() and I hate going to warez-sites, since most of them offer nothing but thrash anyway ![]()

For roguelike games head to http://thangorodrim.angband.org/angband.html ,that covers angband and its variants, from there you should be able to find all the others. I think I saw Moria for download somewhere.
On Thief - well the thief I know of came from Looking Glass, but isnt a roguelike game. It is however very strategic and incredibly tough to beat. I never managed it. FPS game with enemies as tough or tougher than you are, advanced AI and a rather rare dynamic - sneaking is paramount, not combat. You might find some more info on the roguelike newsgroups (rec.games.roguelike.*) since I dont think there are all that many roguelike players here.

Think Eidos had something to do with Thief. Got it with my old graphics card. Liked the first few missions, but I didn't enjoy the dungeon crawling later on. Heard that II was better, but didn't play it. I'd say if you can find Thief under 30$ Canadian, that's like 5 cents American

1st person Nethack-like? Might have been Mordor 2:
http://www.decklinsdomain.com/Games/...ex2.htm#mordor It never got beyond an almost-final beta. But it was great. I think that a few people are trying to continue the project, not sure how succesful they'll be, however. |
