Was just curious, I notice alot of posts here about this game. I have never played it and have no idea what is about.
Anyone care to enlighten me? Is it Sci-fi, fantasy. Baldurs gate style or is it first person. Thanks.

Planescape its extremely linear, the difficulty its not very balanced and the graphics while good are not spectacular.

With that say, you have one of the more original worlds ever created for an RPG, an adventure with a scope and story that rival any recent fantasy novel, and a cast of characters that even after playing the game its hard to believe how good and fun was to meet and interact with them.

If fantasy role playing games where a dungeon for your imagination to explore, then Torment will be the breath of the dragon, it may not be the treasure at the end of the catacombs, but that challenge you will remember even after the weight of gold or the shine of gems its long gone...

Yeah, the main thing about PS: T is that you get to interact with your NPC's much, much more than any other game. You might say that they really are the game, as the plotline is not hard to firue out. I will say, if you liked BGII better than BG, for the depth of the storyline and for great NPC's , then PS: T is your cup of tea. If you preferred Diablo, then, maybe not.

For my money PS:T is the only game anywhere to beat BG2, although BG2 does have more variety on replaying this is an inevitable consequence of having such depth of character interaction. But those who prefer *shudder* diablo to BG might not like it.

Its a matter of taste I suppose.

If you like quests and storyline, Planescape is probably the best game out there in that department. The story and characters are extremely well-developed, and there are a lot of quests where it is to your advantage to use brains over brawn (Mages have an advantage in the game). If you are into hack and slash, there are several decent respawning kill areas, but you lose out on both the good story and the good endings. In other words, if you want to just run around killing everything in sight, get Diablo 2; if you want to enjoy good quests and NPC interaction, get Planescape.

Well, not to spoil the plot, saving the world isn't exactly what you do in Planescape. The plot ends up being a lot more "personal" than that. Besides, the setting is among the AD&D planes of existance, so when you go to "explore the world" eventually, you go plane-jumping. And the main beginning setting is Sigil, City of Doors (they have portals to anywhere in the universe). So you get to see devils just walking down the street minding their own business. And all of the NPCs have some sort of "planar origin" (trying hard not to spoil here). And your hero is extremely unique, especially for an RPG. Let's just say that you gain more from remembering than from learning new things, and getting killed does not necessarily mean that you have to reload the game (I could actually come right out and say what your character is, since you learn it right in the beginning area, but hey why spoil ). You also set all of your stats in the beginning from a pool of points, gain one point to add to stats each level you gain (up to 25 maximum in each), and your stats influence pretty much all of the options open to you in the game. Your character can also switch classes between any of mage, fighter, or thief, gaining xp in each (though you can only have one "active" at a time, and there are advantages to specializing in one more than multiple classes). Finally (and I wish the BG series had this instead of the stupid reputation system), you start out at True Neutral and your actions then determine your alignment from there.

All in all, a very interesting, unique game.
