One thing I always do to get that fight easier, is to first avoid captain Heagan.
When you come up to the slavers, go to the left, and not against the captain.
That makes the fight easier for me.
But if you still cant do it, I suggest that you do other quests first, and then come back and slay them in the higher levels!!! I can promise you, that is very much fun!

I have fine-tuned that battle while soloing and it always involves running but for a purpose. Will work well if you are on lower levels.

You (usually me) enter and wait a second and Heagan will talk to you and after that run out as people will chase.

I then run around the corner in the sewer and take them out. Especially the Preist of Cyric as he has some brutal death spells. Everytime you go up and down, it will autosave also so you will be able to save half way through the battle.

Good luck,

The first time I did it I came in by the ship entrance, and I got no problems.

I didn't find that battle hard at all, with just level 8 or something, it was the first quest I did I think.. just used spells like chaos and horror so most of the slaverers went nuts, running around, and meanwhile took out the toughies like haegan with minsc & korgan.
