[OBV] Mages Guild quest (vahtacen)

Hi, I'm doing the mages guild quest where you help the guys in the Ayleid ruin with the pillar. Anyway, I have a two-part question.

I've discovered I need spells to do the job so I'm off buying some; I've found them all except one. I know I need a spell that damages magicka - I have an absorb magicka spell, would that work? Or does it have to be damage magicka specifically?

If I need a damage magicka spell, who could I buy one from? I have been to the Cheydinhal mages guild with no success, and the two magic shops in the Imperial city market district don't sell the spell. The only person I've found who sells one so far is the guy in the arcane university, only his is super powerful and very expensive - I would prefer to buy a cheap one instead of wasting thousands on his spell and then having to remake it anyway into something that I can actually cast

Near the pillar is a chest box, inside the chest box contain the scrolls that have the required magic spells. Use them instead of buying spells.

Ya, i ran over the whole province looking for those spells. In the end, i had to buy a cheap damage magicka and use the spellmaker to change it into something that could be used on the pillar. Then i read the Mage Guild walkthrough on gamefaqs and find out that all the scrolls are already there!

OMG you are kidding . LOL.

Frankly, I think that is pretty weak quest design in role-playing terms, actually. Like, gee, we have these scrolls here and a book to translate the writing but we just can't figure it out!! Lucky this random adventurer came along . To me it made perfect sense that I would either be a mage and have spells already, since it's a mages guild quest, or that I would have to go buy suitable spells not being a mage.
