I'm not talking technically, but logically. If you kill people for money, can you still be a good person?

Discuss.

Not in the real world, thou shalt not kill, remember ? This is just a game however, i basically kill anything that moves, and still feel pretty decent afterwards.

Quite frankly, I believe that those in the Dark Brotherhood enjoy the killing.

Though, some special cases may present themselves. Such as a Knight of the Imperial Legion having to go undercover, and kill to keep said cover. His goal is to get information he can then relay to his gaurd captain. Whereas the regular Dark Brotherhood family member kills for enjoyment, greed, and power.

There's my two cents.

I know it's just a game, but we're trying to roleplay here, remember. I'm just wondering how you can justify yourself to be a "good" person if you kill for money, and kill in cold blood. I suppose it's the same as fighting in the arena, but at least those you kill there know that their lives are at risk. Assassination is a bit different. Isn't it?

Assassination is wholly different, as the target could be the epitome of innocence. Though, that matters little to the assassin.

Whereas in the Arena, they signed up for it. They know the risks. And they paid for their stupidity

Having played through the DB quest stack I can tell you that there's no way to be a 'Good' character of any sort and be in the DB.

Evil and possibly Neutral characters could work out... but Good... no way. The fundamental philosophy of the DB is that killing is a good thing, and they're not particularly discriminating.

What you CAN do as a DB member is make everyone else believe you're good. If you're careful you can avoid infamy points and with a few noble MQ or blades quests you can rack up the fame. Just avoid the thieving, unless I'm just really bad at it I've found it hard to avoid infamy points there.

How do you avoid infamy points? Logically, if you perform those DB quests "correctly" nobody should know who the assassin is. So theoretically you shouldn't then pick up infamy points, right?

Thieving I can understand - if you get caught then your reputation as a person of ill repute should rise.
Memnoch, you're not an assassin, go do some thieving quests or something. The Dark Brotherhood is no social club, and leaves no room for second thoughts. Go do their quests and you'll know what i'm talking about. In the end it's definitely worth it though, so hang on to this particular twist in the game.

Maybe, even if you do it with no one seeing you, there are still those that know you have done the job....And word spreads it seems

I've done all the DB quests and while I do have SOME infamy points... I don't have many. Could be that I just got more points for good quests I did at the same time but I've got at least twice as many fame points as infamy points.
