Oblivion i assume ?
Just go to the nearest town and find either a fence (if your with the Thieves guild) or a general merchant. Somehow it's no problem to sell off more stuff than they have cash in their possession. Maybe that's a bug ? If so, i don't really mind, it saves me from a lot of extra traveling.

I sell pretty much all my stuff at the blacksmith in Anvil, right across from the Fighters and Mage's Guilds. I end up going through there alot, and it's right near a quick-travel point. He'll only buy weapons and armour though.

The highest I've seen so far is 1200 (if I remember). I think it was in a district in the imperial city (not the merchant dist though). |

I may be wrong, but I believe the amount they have
on them is what you would steal off their dead bodies, if you kill and rob them. That was something I read on another forum and I've not killed a merchant or store owner so I don't know if this is true or not. Save a game just before killing one and see if he has that much on him/her. Then reload the save just before you killed him to avoid the fines.
