Does the chance of success of gaining a bonus from eating an ingredient depend on one's alchemy skill? Or does it depend on the ingredient? It's not something i've experimented much with and it's confusing me. Anyone care to explain how it works.

I did a fair bit of experementation with this and in my experience your chance of getting a bonus from eating an ingredient depends nearly entirly on your alchemy skill.

You get a bonus but the bonus is small. IIRC, creating one potion = eating about 5 ingredients.

The bonuses in Morrowind work the following way:
- Each skill has a counter, which is increased every time you use the skill successfuly. The magnitude of the increase can depend on the action (like in our case: successful eating - small increase, successful creating a potion - bigger increase).
- Each skill has a "breakpoint table", which contains values of the counter needed for skill levels. Every time the counter reaches a "breakpoint", the skill level increases.
This mechanism is used for all skills.

Let us summarize:
(a) The bonus is fixed, it does not depend on the alchemy skill.
(2) The breakpoints for hich alchemy levels are far from each other. That's why you get new alchemy skill levels quickly if your alchemy skill is low and why you need to make trucks of potions (or eat much more trucks of ingredients) if you want a new skill level at high alchemy skill.
