Got this quest from Thieve's Guild in Balmora: Get bottle of vintage wine from Hlaalu Manor, that belongs to a deceased member of the house. Now I know it might be in Vivec or some other city; but I tried Hlaalu Council Manor in Balmora. Nothing in plain sight. So-o-o-o-o-oo....

Am I supposed to try pickpocketing everyone and opening every locked chest in plain sight, which means potentially scores of reloads, or is there some other information or technique that I should have figured out in game to make this task much less of a brute force effort? I don't particularly want to slay everyone in the manor; and something tells me this might dramatically affect my options from this point in the game onward. Am I supposed to wander the countryside doing other things until a clue pops up in some place I don't expect?

If it is brute force reloads, and any significant fraction of the quests are also like this, then I'm going to rely very heavily on the forums or get bored very fast.

Thank you.

EDIT: Sorry to sound like a whiner. They say that there is a thin line between challenging and frustrating. Guess I still just don't "get it" when it comes to these quests, and therefore have a low threshold of pain.

Haha, not 'Hlaalu', Hlaalo. You know Nerano Manor, for which you had to obtain a key two quests ago? Well iirc, Hlaalo Manor is next door .

Yes... I searched Vivec all around for it... and he's right, it's Hlaalo. Not Hlaalu. and, if you search the hpouse, you'll find it easily enough

If I remember correctly, that house has two, doesn't it?

I don't really remember it having two, but I do remember this being a fairly "in and out" job. Go to to upstair entrance and it's no problem whatsoever to lockpick the door without the guard seeing you...and the bottle I found was upstairs, anyway.

Acckk! How dumb... Thanks. This was very easy, once I entered the right HOUSE.

I'm beginning to feel like a really slow study: I've attained level 19, and have about 36,000 gold; but have only completed about 4 Thieve's guild jobs! I have only visited Seyda Neen, Pelgiad, Balmora, Ola-whatever (village with Fatleg's store), one other town of which I can't remember the name (freeing slave from caves under Fatleg's), and explored most of *ONE* canton of Vivec. Is this reasonable?

I've got another one: I think I have figured out who killed Ralen; but no one seems to care; not even the suspected killer (the red-head). Is there going to be a quest associated with this later on, am I supposed to get myself into trouble, or is this just plot "clutter?"

Minor spoilers welcome. No *MAJOR* spoilers, please.

wow, level 19? You're doing pretty well for yourself, if I do say so myself.

Yep . So you can sell one of them for a tidy profit.
