When you start doing quests for Aryon, he'll mention about fixing you up with a stronghold. You'll be probably about the rank where you need 40 or 50 of the primary skill (dunno the title). You then have to talk to the chick in the Council House Hermitage in Sadrith Mora (go in the council house and down the passage to the right - she is in possibly the most inconvenient location ever
![]() For alchemy you need at least a mortar and pestle. Like lockpicks and so on, there are different qualities of alchemy equipment - apprentice, journeyman, master, grandmaster. The other three pieces of equipment (alembic, calcinator, retort) affect the strength and quality of the positive and negative effects in the potions you make. To make a potion, you need at least two different ingredients that have a certain effect (e.g. restore attribute, paralyze, water walking etc), then you put any of your equipment (e.g. mortar and pestle) on your paper doll (like you would do if you were reading a book in your inventory) and you'll get a box that lets you choose what ingredients you want to combine for your potions. You'll know if you chosen ingredients that will successfully create a potion if an effect shows up in the right hand side of the box. Hope that made sense

Aryon, your patron in house Telvanni, will mention your 'stronghold' when you get to the right level.
The word should appear in his dialog options, and when you click it, you'll get instructions. BUT you have to talk [repeatedly] to a woman living in the deepest bowels of the Telvanni Tower of Ald Ruhn: I hadn't even known there was a basement, let alone a sub-sub-sub basement. As to buying the better equipment, I don't think its worthwhile: you'll get opportunities to steal pieces of it here and there along the way, and you do get a few pieces free when your stronghold gets built. Aelia - that helped me out at least - I've been dropping books on the ground and picking them back up in order to read them. Man, I feel stupid...

I'll try to help with the alchemy part, although it'll pretty much be what Aelia Jusa said.
Buy a mortar and pestle, then try to equip it. A new screen will come up, and one box will have the mortar and pestle in it. The boxes to the right of the mortar and pestle are for the optional equipment (alembic, calcinator, retort). The four boxes below the alchemy equipment boxes are for ingredients. The seemingly random items (like plant leaves and mushrooms. If you have a low alchemy skill, anything with ? as the description can be used, as long as it's not already a potion) can be put here. (Increasing the number of the same ingredient has no effect on the potion itself. You always use only one of each ingredient) The large box on the right side of the screen will show the effects. If nothing is there, the potion would have no effect. Change ingredients until you get an effect (any combination of bread, crab meat, or eggs will make a "restore fatigue" potion, to give you an example). Red is a bad effect (possibly self damaging), but even "bad" potions are worth money. You'll probably have to attempt potions a lot before you are successful, if your alchemy skill is low. Kinda like how you are usually unsuccessful repairing things if your skill for that is low. I hope this helps. Oh, and I would reccomend that you leave the optional equipment somewhere safe when you're not using it, since it can weigh a lot. [ 06-22-2004, 05:49 PM: Message edited by: LS0158 ] |
