Hello gang,
I have the game of the year edition and have only loaded the original game so far, I've reached level 10 and am really enjoying it. Should I load Bloodmoon and Tribunal as well at the same time? Or is it okay to complete the first bit before I do that? Am I missing out on stuff? love Jelly x

If you are new to the game you might want to just play morrowind first. Tribunal might be a bit hard for new players and may 'enpowered' new characters accidentally.

Both Tribunal and Bloodmoon are stand-alone additions and you won't be missing out on anything if you don't install them before you've finished Morrowind. Keep in mind that you can finish the main quest of Morrowind and the game doesn't end as it does in some games; you can just play on. As Kakero said as well, both expansions are substantially more difficult than Morrowind and probably best left until you're quite a high level (eg over 15). They also give you access to better equipment that could unbalance the game making it too easy for you to complete the Morrowind quests. Really, the only reasons you'd want to install the expansions is access to merchants with more money (but again, you could argue that unbalances the original game since it was designed to stop you from getting too rich and buying all your training), and the fact that when you install Tribunal, it upgrades the journal and takes a very loooong time (seriously - it took my computer about 40 minutes) to complete when you have a lot of quests in it.

I've got Morrowind on Xbox (not GoTY) but I'm wordering whether or not I should get it just for he expansions. And would I still be able to use my old characters?

Yes you can. It just converts your old save and everything goes fine after that.
One thing though, the load times for everything are longer than ever with the GotY version. At least it rarely crashes on me anymore though. Or maybe my xbox just likes the disc better.
