Okay, Galbedir left her gems unguarded, and I took the prettiest one she had...and saved. I then tried to pawn the thing off, and quicksaved. I then rested, so that takes care of the autosave. Now, I have a gem worth 60000 septims, and Galbedir doesn't supect me, so I'm in the clear---except for the fact that no merchants seem to have enough capital to take the thing, so I was going to give it back to Galbedir, but she doesn't recognize it exists if I put it back where I found it....
So could someone help me do something either dastardly (read, the sale of the gem for a nice hefty bonus), or return the practically worthless thing? And yes, I would like to get at least 50% out of the thing....

It's a soul gem isn't it? Why don't you just use it to enchant something you can use (or sell)? Or get an enchanter to do it for you? Unless you have a mod or the expansions there really isn't anyone who has 60000 septims in their cash registers.

Well, I have the GotY Edition, but don't have the extra cash to enchant things yet... Besides, my character doen't have a high enough rank in Enchant to do ANYTHING yet, besides recharging. Maybe I should just keep it for later, but I was hoping it could fund at least two parts of that ebony armor I was wanting...maybe I should just start looting everywhere...

if you don't mind taking a long time, then its possible to sell anything. You need to have a certain amount of gold and/or items for it to work, and you need to go to one of the merchants that will give you full prices (ask if you want to be spoiled - not sure if you've discovered them yet).
What you then must do is adopt a bartering system, you need to find items in their list that are worth up to 60,000 (eg a couple of bits of decent armour or weapons...ebony, glass etc) - if necessary sell these smaller items to them first. Then, say they have 10,000 gold, select items worth 50,000 to buy from them, and sell your thing for 60,000 and the transaction should work. Then sell the items you just bought back to them again (you'll have to rest for 24 hours to renew their gold.) It works best with a high number of smaller value items because it gives you more flexibility in bartering. eg ebony darts are quite good (5 for 10,000 if i remember, but you can split them up.) Use the small items like these to assist in the bartering. Sorry if that's not very clear. Because of the number of transactions required and the initial high level of gold the storekeep should have (or you'll be there all day) one of the two special merchants is extremely advisable. Hope that helps |

Ah, just seen your second post....in that case, hang on to it for later
You do need a certain amount of cash and/or decent kit for a float for it to work, but it sounds like you haven't got that far in the game yet. If you want some easy way to get hold of some nice glass armour, highlight this: ~~Spoilers~~ In the fighters guild in Ald-Ruhn, there's a door on the right hand side on the ground floor (as you look towards the blacksmith) It's a high level (80-100 IIRC) so you'll probably need to buy a scroll of Ekash's Lock Splitter. Inside you'll find a nice set of glass armour. ~~End of Spoilers~~ You can either wear it, or use it to bargain and sell your gem. You can always sell your gem and then buy the armour back without losing money if you use one of the special merchants. Now that i've figured out this HTML thingy, highlight below if you want to know who and where they are: ~~Spoilers~~ Creeper is an Imp who is in a tavern (second floor?) in Caldera (roughly central on the map, to the left of Ash Mountain IIRC) you can get there using the mages guild. The other is the talking mud-crab - much harder to find, somewhere SE of Vivec in the Ascadian Isles on a small island. Opposite some ancestral tomb i think. ~~End of spoilers~~ [ 02-08-2004, 04:17 PM: Message edited by: shamrock_uk ] |

Thanks Shamrock, you filled in the gaps...of course, I know about both of the special Mercants, but have only found the former...Anyway, I'll wait until I sell more items to said merchant before I try to get my gold...
Out of curiosity, any way whatsoever to RETURN the gem (see title of thread if you're at all unclear about what I'd do...lol)

Nope, i tried because i did exactly the same thing! I was less smart and tried to sell it back to her (one of my first actions in the game) thinking one soul gem looks the same as another! :%
And you can't return it as such, because she hasn't realised it's gone, if that makes sense. For example, if on her trip down the hallway you talk to her, she stops and stays there the rest of the game and doesn't even go back to her desk. You can just put it back, but we both know that's not the smart thing to do ![]() Plus i presume that because you stole it in the first place (and violated guild rules) even if you could return it to her properly, it would still get you kicked out i should think. That's the price for being a criminal |

If you have the Tribunal expansion pack then many of the merchants over at Mournhold have 10,000 gold. As much as I like Morrowind, I wish they'd found a better way to handle the limitations on funds. I can understand why they did it of course, money = power in this game as you can train your character up very easily with enough cash. It just bugs me that so many items can't be sold without losing out on the deal.
