Does anyone know if the spell "Greater Malison" is cumulative? I think if I were the DM I'd say no, but you never know about rulings like this until you hear straight from the horses mouth. -8 or -12 saves after a sequencer blast is just too good to resist.

From hearsay and not wanting to look it up, it isn't cumulative - doesn't stack with itself. Doom, however, seems to stack nicely with itself. Doom, doom, nother doom?, greater mal. Doom's duration is short but it gets the job done too.

That's funny--I'd heard that Greater Malison WAS cumulative. When I cast it twice, the text box shows "Saving Throws Lowered" twice.

Enemies only seem to cast it on ME once, however.....maybe someone should take a long, hard look at the code and let us know for sure.

Yup, that's why I said hear-say. I wouldn't know for sure since I just now got the greater mal spell from chapter five. All that time. tsk... I have used 4 dooms right from the get go on Firkraag from Aerie, Jaheira, Minsc, and Anomen. Then a nice yellow circle was around Firkraag after an insect plague and some other spell( yellow means he's feared right?). One of those things I can say I know works or appears to work. If it doesn't, I'm very lucky over and over

The best thing is to ask, then check for yourself if you can. There are ALOT of varying ideas and theories. Bugs and patches and that whole mess can make ppl have very different game states. Keep that in mind too.

If it works on party members, I'll try it right now and come back to post another reply. Beats having to wonder on the validity of the next poster.

In its original and unaltered form, Greater Malison makes the target immune to further castings of Greater Malison, which means the spell is not stackable. However, the spell does not disable the display string "saving throws lowered", so you see that text even though it has no effect. Doom is indeed stackable; Greater Malison followed by 2 Dooms = -8 to saving throws and -4 to Thac0.

Yes, a yellow circle means the creature has failed a morale check.

K, this is my test... Casting it upon party members doesn't work.

Aerie will cast but there will be no following text. 8 times I've casted it on my main, and nothing. Then I summoned critters from a rod. I shot one with a sling to make it hostile. It stayed green but was firing back at me. I tried to GM it but no text. Hrm...???

K, now I went to visit the dwarves. I made one hostile by firing off a pebble into his cranium. His buddies ran to his aid. One Greater Mal hits one guy and spreads to all three. I see text with their saves being lowered. I fire another. No text. Another, no text.

Then, they animate a skeleton. I fire the last to only see the skeleton's saves lowered. After that, I moved the skeleton out of the way and proceeded to doom it. 3 dooms landed.

Try it yourself and see. Maybe I'm not thorough enough....but maybe that second greater malison was cast when that first one expired. Dunno, since that isn't my game experience.

As the developers say it:
"If a spell-description doesnt specifically say that the spell stacks, its not meant to"

Greater Malison is NOT meant to stack, there is a bug however, that makes it stackable. Baldurdash has a fix i believe.
hope it helpz
