Hello. I am a nord that is a fighter. Master of the fighters guild.
Problem is, I am a magician in Mages guild and want to advance but find
myself resorting to hack and slash since the magic is so weak in comparison to normal weapons. My normal weapons does not run out of juice the same way as the magica does as well. So, how do I up the stats for mages guild in the best way?

Also, how do I use the boots of blinding speed. I mean, fast sure, but I am fekking blind, so no good to me. What have I missed?

Hmm... I havent played ES3 in a while, so I cant remember what the stats are for magic users... just pick the magic you want to raise, and either buy stats in it, or raise it the old fashioned way.

As for the boots of BLINDING speed, I think the name gives it away. You could always try setting the gamma to max, but in my experience, it doesnt work.

Sorry.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. My stats like "destruction" can not get higher due to the governing attribute like "intelligence" not being high enough. What I mean are the attributes you can change when leveling up. So, now it might be clearer?

What happens to me is that since I revert to fekking hacknslash all the time, I get not multipliers on the skills that are relevant to a mage.

To boost stats, choose a spell (like Fireball) for destuction's sake, and go to a Spellmaker. Instead of making an extremely destructive fireball spell, make a really feeble one...and title it 'destruction trainer'. Minimize the effects and magicka cost, and you can cast it numerous times while simply walking from place to place - practcing. You will fail quite often, but you will also increase the percentages towards your leveling up the appropriate skill. It works. Or, you can BUY skill training.

As for the boots, I always just used the inlaid map...which does not go dark. The other way seems to be to have a costant effect 'dispell' item on hand.

A little cheat for the multipliers follows

Go to a spell maker and make a spell for the skill you want to multiply (eg fire spell for destruction) when u make the spell do it for 1-1 magnitude and 1 time, the cast should just be 1 majicka point, and able to do this 100% of the time.
Retire to a quiet part of the wilderness and cast away, each cast will raise the skill by 2 -4 points and should last 2 level ups before the majicka runs out, then its a quick sleep to restore and off you go casting again. it will take about 10 level ups in Destruction(or whatever skill) to gain 5x multiplyer in the main skill. You can not get any more tha 5 multiplies so more than that would be a waste.

Hope this answers your questions.

First of all, I play this on the Xbox and not sure if it's the same on the PC version or not. I use the boots all the time. Saves a hell of a lot of time. On the Xbox version in the upper lefthand corner of the screen is a small square with an arrow showing your location and a little bit of the map. I use the fullsize map to get an idea of where I'm going and then put on the boots and just use the small map in the upper left corner to see where I'm headed.

If you want to be a mage, raise intelligence (which also affects mana) and willpower.

To raise your stats:

1)Multiplier bonuses work as follow:
Each skill has a governing attribute (e.g Alchemy = intelligence).
Whenever you level one point in the skill, a multiplier bonus 0.5 is counted. When you level up, the bonuses for each attribute are counted and you get a multiplier bonus which is equal to the sum, rounded down or up (I don't remember): E.g. you get 3 skill points in long blade => your strength bonus will be 2x.

But: this only works for major/minor skills - miscellaneous skills don't cumulate bonuses: if you raise one of your misc skills (e.g. mysticysm = willpower), you will get a 2x bonus. No more.

So this is the most succesful strategy for you:

1)you have a willpower or intelligence major/minor skill: simply train 10 points in that skill - this way you get a x5 multiplier for the corresponding stat when you level up. This way, however, you will get your 5x bonus and nothing else. So you need to work up 1 point each in any of the misc skills whose attribute you want to raise, so that you get two 2x as well. Then level up.

2)If you happen to have no willpower / intelligence skills as major/minor, then level up normally and raise an intelligence and a willpower misc skill by training.(suggestion:those requested by the guild).

Thanx for all the tips, but I am not sure you get what I really mean. I can not train mysticism or destruction at all, since the skill can not be higher than the governing attribute. So, I guess I'll build a few very puny spells and cast away and see what happens, because I can NOT buy any more training, since the skills are at the same level as its governing attribute. So, that is it, I guess I'll do the spell thingie, that should give me a chance to level up the attributes of my character so I can train the skills more.

Oh, since a nord is immune to frost damage I enchanted a daedric dai katana with frost damage at strike, 72 points I think. So even if the foe reflects like a mirror, you have no problem, when they do not reflect, they have a problem. Not that you really need it, but I have not enchanted any items before and I wanted to try something.

Thanx everyone.

odin i have the same problem as you , i get what you mean, they all misread

multipliers DONT work if you set up a warrior char least for intelligence and willpower which are the crucial ones if you dont have int or willpower in ANY of your prime attributes (like me i dont) then you CANNOT gain a multiplier and will get 1 at most each time in int and willpower, same as with luck, therefore there is no way round it (short of maybe a hack) i have the same problem, i just need to work on at least one skill the mage guild does like and boost it to 90 to advance, thats a bit hard when my levels are running out and i got no multipliers on int or willpower, levelling is easy for me, i go to a grand master trainer, unfortunately being as i cant get int or willpower up, im currently capped off at a lower level so im stuffed, there is no way round it short of rolling a better prepared character to begin with, ie one with at least one thing of all attributes in primary stats, it takes experience to realise this, but the best combination for truly completing morrowind (ie becoming head of all clans that you can) is utilising everything attribute wise in major or minor, so strength, stamina, willpowr intelligence etc, doesnt matter what kind of char your intent on creating or if its a warrior or mage, you have to use those just to gain the proper multipliers.

as this was my first char i made the mistake of going without willpower and intelligence same as odin, so like him im gonna find it really hard to become archmage (though i think i got just enough levels left to do it)
