I choose to play and the mini movie plays through, now when I try to leave the boat via to hatch the game crashes/stalls everytime, I need to restart my computer everytime. i had exactly the same specs of computer as you have except that mine was only 1.2mhz celeron... your video card is the problem.. i had to update my own video card to gforce 2 just to get it to work.. although.. someone did told me that you need a certain kind of patch to make it work ...
try looking at this post.. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...=000201#000000 because i also had this kind of problem

i managed to run morrowind satisfactorily on a 16mb ati card which is about 6 years old if not more and without any updated drivers or tweaking, didnt even run all that slow (compared to what i thought it would), plus was a pIII450 256mb ram a nvdia tnt riva is WAY better than a 16mb ati rage crap so i doubt its the graphics unless it requires a patch but its possible you got memory issues, try downloading some diagnostic software and checking it out. But same spot everytime could be a runtime bug of the game which suggests a corrupted file....

It's your video card.
Grungi's comparision of his 6 year old ATI card that played the game and your card is well-meant, but meaningless. As his assertion of a run-time error. Different cards = different problems = different results. The interior cell world you are in is small. When you try to load the huge local cell, you're toast. Your video card chipset can't handle the engine's exterior cells. Get a new video card (GeForce 3 or 4 (no MX)), update the drivers before you even try to run the game, and the game will run as smooth as a baby's butt.

erm no my assertion is completely valid, i do this daily being in computer support and i been dealing with computers crashing for 20 years, the graphics card itself is one possibility, but due to the fact its nvidia who are the most well supported card out there now and being a tnt which i still sell new where i work i would suggest thats its a drivers problems or a software conflict and fixable, so instead of advising someone to spend quite a large amount of money try working around every available solution first or dont offer a solution, its always better to get a new graphics card yes of course but if its not actually needed then its just wasting money, and a 32mbtnt2 should be adequate to play morrowind, there are also a large amount of possiblities for the problem not just the graphics and theres too many for me to even bother listing. My 16mb card is terrible and is bettered in every way by the tnt2 therefore there is no reason a tnt2 cannot handle morrowind where a ati rage can. (unless his tnt is faulty which i doubt due to it being error in the same place)
best thing to do is check morrowind sites specifically to see what hardware it works best with and for any known problems with cards but hey if he has the money get a geforce4 ti4200 like i have now and you wont need to worry about speeds again, but may well not solve your current problem... |

I don't know if this helps or not but I had the same problem. My graphics card is a Nvida TNT2 Model 64. All I had to do to fix the problem was go to their website and download the updated drivers. Works great now.

I just built myself a new pc. A p4-2.53, geforce 4 ti4600, 512 meg ram, audigy gamer card with 5.1 speakers. Basically a powerful system. Now my previous system I really had no problems running the game. It had the same geforce card in it, I swapped it out, and the system was a p4 1.4 with 384 meg ram.
The game is crashing or rebooting my new pc often. It's the only program or game doing this to my new system. I've been wrestling with it for weeks. The question I am posing is, Is there anyone else out there having problems with the 5.1 surround sound? I have done everything recommended on the MW site regarding crashes, set back directx settings, software mode sound, lowering rez. My video card is not the issue. Heck this new pc should be running this game without a hiccup. I just had a friend tell me that there are rumors that the game has problems with the 5.1 sound delivery. Can anyone else confirm this? I'm pretty disappointed right now. I have this game I love on a pc which should display it in all it's glory and the darned thing won't run but for only 10 - 20 minute periods. I crossed the length of the map just last night, quick saving often, only to have the game crash again during a quick save. Now I am back where I started on the other side of the map. An hour of gaming wasted.

I'm currently fiddling with sound setup and I actually was able to play for an hour without incident for a while. I turned the master volume way down. It kind of sucks because you can't hear a lot of stuff very well. I may try editing the mw.ini file where I can disable sound entirely and see what happens. The strange thing is after the first crash, it seemed to occur much more frequently. I finally gave up for the evening in disgust. It's aggravating becaus eI have played this all summer almost exclusively. I am just about to start the sixth ashlander quest heading towards Vivec, so I know I am nearing the end of this game. I don't know if I'll be able to finish it.
Has anyone noticed if you turn the master volume slider all the way down, you hear sounds like you are surrounded by creatures, but nothing is there. What's up with that?
