I was wondering if there was any purpose to the non-hostile barbarians that are always lingering around deadra shrines. No spoilers please, just yes or no.

Also, should I feel bad about killing all these little groups of people in the Azura coast? All the time I come upon little campfires and end up massacring the campers. Well.. they attack me first. Why is the country side filled with homocidal maniacs?!

What NON-hostile barbarians?!?!? They always attack me after speaking to them. As to the purpose they serve ... sharpening my sword? Seriously though, no I don't think they have a purpose.

Don't feel bad. The Ashlanders are hostile to all "Outlanders". Some will be less so later in the game, but I won't spoil. They will be larger encampments though. The tiny camp fires are usualy hostile.

I know what he's talking about -- I've seen a few barbarians standing about in ruins as well, and they don't attack me or even greet me. They do have a number of ordinary conversation topics, is all. Maybe they're just there to taunt into a fight if the player feels up to it.

Heh, 'Barbarians at the Gates'. The pun was not lost on me.

Anyway they are a strange bunch, sometimes they have mundane conversation options and attack you after that, some of them don't attack you, and some of them just attack you on sight. None have any quest related stuff though.

Actually.. now that I think about it.. When I had my Legionarie character that I never finished I remember having to rescue someone in a Daedric shrine. The barbarians outside of that shrine had some quest-related dialog I believe.

I think that if someone is just strolling around a shrine (or through the countryside) ... that he or she are a part of some quest. I know that same goes with NPC's with only a few dialogue options (2-5 picks)
