Hey Everyone!

I really don't like this new feature that came with the Morrowind 1.1.0605 patch and I found some instructions on how to make a MOD which would disable it.

It's a really simple MOD, but this is the first one I have made, so use it with caution please.

This will remove the NPC health bar when the MOD is loaded.
The health bar will return when the MOD is not loaded.

You can download the file from my website:
No NPC Health Bar MOD

I also like the health bar. It's a definite advantage.

The NPC health bar is definately the most useful feature in the patch, besides the autowalk button. Why would you want to remove it?

A lot of people, including me, feel that the health bar takes away a certain amount of realism and that combat is a lot more interesting if you don't know the exact health of your opponent. It seems like a bit of a cheat to me. Ok, so I'm part of a minority in this, but I'd rather play without it.

If you like the health bar, that's cool. You don't need my MOD.
But it's nice to have the option to disable it if you would rather play without it.

Thanks for link Arwen.

Currently the health bar thingy doesn't bothers me very much. In fact I didn't pay much attention to it because a few whack from my Gold Brand is enough to kill whoever/whatever crosses my path.

Hello

Why do you think that the Health Bar removed some realism from the game ???

If the game somehow showed you the damage in the animations then that would be the most correct way, but it's very UNREALISTIC that you can't see if someone is unhurt or one the brink of death. So the Health Bar is a way of showing this.

I have to agree with GodSlayer. In real life if you hit someone with a sword, arrow, or other weapon, there would be some visible sign of the damage. Other games like Wizardry have shown this by changing the image of the monster to make it look more injured. Unfortunately with a game like Morrowind and its vast array of monsters and NPCs that would be very time consuming. The NPC health bar is just a way of showing the relative level of injury. I think a better way to implement this feature would be to show relative levels of injury like green/yellow/red instead of the bar that pretty much shows the exact amount of hit points left. However, I will take the bar over nothing.
