And which music do you use? I didn't delete the game tracks since I happen to LOVE Morrowind's soundtrack, but since it's basically the only game I play (wow it broke my EverQuest addiction ) the same old tracks needed some company. Presently I've added:

1-Most of the tracks in the Lord of the Rings soundtrack CD (most used for combats since they can be pretty high intensity tracks once they warm up but Concerning Hobbits is pretty nice for exploring)

2-Dungeon Siege music I extracted (I definitely just LOVE Jeremy Soule's composition skills, can't wait to listen to what he has in store for Neverwinter Nights)

3-Akira Soundtrack (yes, I own the original soundtrack from this anime =D) The Kaneda theme and the Clown fight one make really high intensity battle tracks

4-Assorted selections from different Star Wars soundtracks (what can I say, I love George Williams compositions too! And I get kinda pumped up when the game chooses Duel of the Fates for battle)

5-Selected pieces from the Macross Plus Soundtrack (ok I'm an anime freak and own too many soundtracks)

6-The Cranberries! Nothing beats Salvation in a heated fight when it comes up!

7-Baldur's Gate I and II Soundtracks. Yes, I did buy the CE on BGII! And yes.. I did buy the second release of the original BG because it included the soundtrack. I'm pathetic, I know .

8-Record of Lodoss War! The original series had some nice tracks, even if well, Adesso E Fortuna sounds totally out of place but I like that song too much to ignore. Waiting for my 3 CD's of the Chronicles series to arrive.. long time when ordered from Japan .

Darn.. I probably have half my HD space dedicated to music I've ripped to put in Morrowind now that I see myself writing this. Oh well, it's fun!

i was thinking of doing that, silver! but man-o-man! do you ever have a lot of GREAT tracks there!

i adore jeremy soule, too, but i would love to put some of the LoTR music into the game.

tell me, do you just swap them out, keeping the current naming convention? if so, then it appears that it would very easy to do. or am i missing something?

wow, now if i can only talk megabot into sharing some music with me.
::wanders off::

Mega!! Oh, Mega!! got any music i can borrow from you?? ::smiles, batting her eyelashes::

Oh, it's really easy to do. Morrowind uses music in MP3 format. What you do is you locate your MP3's and look for the Music Folder in Morrowind. The structure goes (if default installation):

Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files\Music

In the music folder you will find one for exploration, another for battle and a "special" folder. They're named for what they do, for music to play while exploring or fighting, drag it to the appropiate folder. The game will just shuffle the tracks. You don't need to rename anything (unless you have the unlikely event of 2 identically named tracks). The special folder has music for the title screen, dying, and leveling up. In order to replace those tracks, you do need to rename them so I'd suggest backing up the originals before you do it if for some reason you decide to change these tracks.

Hmm.. I usually put on music when the game itself is so mind-numbingly boring, and it's so easy you could finish the whole thing in your sleep. (read: Diablo2) .. Questing in MW is quite engrossing. It's only when I'm roaming the countryside with my daedric war axe that it tends to get a bit repeatative, and I wish I had mp3s handy.

Maybe I'll start listening to my winamp playlist, now that I'm not experiencing 40 bluescreens every day..

What to listen to? Well.. my music taste doesn't differ much from when I play games and when I do other things.

What I listen to is mostly theme-music from films and games like
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill2
Final Fantasy
Star Wars
Jackie Brown (the Tarantino-movie)
Christophe Beck's BTVS-songs (Buffy the vampire slayer)
Riverdance
Metallica (S&M mostly)

when i get attacked by a bunch of cliff racers and Fu manchu comes on i cant kill them till i hear the line "Now its time to squash that fly" then the killing begins. i have found that the game slows down when its playing my mp3's, but i love to hear Dave Matthews band play "the space between" when i'm out exploring between towns and enya's orinoco flow is a nice touch while running around Morrowind

Yup, it's MP3. I even burned my own soundtrack CD from the game music folder! I wanted Morrowind CE but I couldn't get it because my local store didn't get the CE when the game got out. I had a choice.. wait until they got the CE edition or walk out with Morrowind and play it. I chose the later. Course, I DO plan to buy the CE soon . It also happens that I collect pewter figures (old Warhammer player too.. I'm in trouble on all sides =p), and I just LOVE the Ordinator armor so I want that figure! And I will probably incorporate it into my dark elf army if it's the right size . Also very interested in that artbook.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.... And you're expecting that my game would work without a complete re-install? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

NO! Maybe later. Once I've squeezed out some more juice out of this lemon.

(It's an expression. It doesn't mean the game is a lemon or should be equated with a lemon. Now that I'm more toward the top end system my testimony is that this game is just freaking amazing.)
