I searched the forum first, but it seems everyone found that second piece of rod but me. I've done the quest pretty much in order, but I was under the impression I could 'steal' that 2nd rod piece without having to go thru 10 or so beholders. My thief has searched the entire lair and has found plenty of 'niches', but no rod in any I can get to without a fight.
Maybe just a hint please ? Do I need to kill everything in the lair just to find it ? Thanks |

In the bottom right of the screen there should be an alcove you can search, inside is the second half of the rod, once you unite the two halves the unseeing eye will appear, the rod will be on your lead character in your party formation, so if it's not the thief then he's gonna get handled, most likely, he's the only one you really have to fight but with the other beholders worth 9k a pop, slap on the shield of baduran and spank them, I used it on the unseeing eye and Anomen with a +2 warhammer took out the eye alone (gauntlets of ogre power on of course)

I must be blind or something, I re-searched and still can't find any alcove that's not guarded by beholders.
I haven't added the merchant patch yet, so I don't have a shield of Balderan. I also just noticed I can't get my un-invisible people out without going throught the lair - I guess I could memorize enough spells to invis all of them tho. |

The alcove in the lower right guarded by a single Gauth as far as I remember. But why not try to take on the Eye Tyrants?

its to the far right of the map. there are four alcoves if im correct, and its the one on the far right.
