If you are speaking of Computer RPGs like Baulder's Gate or Neverwinter Nights, it may be more appropriate to ask this question on our forums dedicated to those games specifically. Here, we have story-based gaming, and is running on an honor code at the moment, meaning that you can create your own character privately and place him/her in a game setting here, and we will not question your abilities as long as you stay within a reasonable standard...though some games on here do tend to lean toward wanting a rule-based game. In that case, your character sheet would be posted in the appropriate place that the Game Master indicates and your saving throws or other rolls would be calculated by the Game Master. Currently, I do not know of any strict rule based games that are being played at the moment, as they all seem to be more story-based and free to be whoever you want and act however you want, as long as nobody protests...
I hope I have answered your question. Can you be more specific as to what type of gaming you want to do, or what you want to acheive? [ 06-28-2002, 03:31 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ] |

There are a lot of sites where you can have online DnD sessions. There are also many different means to play. Most of the time you'll need some kind of software, but what you need depends on what group you're playing with. It's often best to find a group first, and get the software then instead of the other way around.
One of the most commonly used programs is IRC, and both Webrpg and Openrpg are not uncommon either. But like I said, it's really best to find the game you want to play first, and the software later. There's almost always a reference or a link to the site where you can download it. I can't give you any first hand experience about the above three links though. I've never bothered to look for a DnD group on IRC, and I can't get the other two to work on my computer ![]() |

Oh there are plenty of online communities out there dedicated to D&D you just have to know where too think that many of them are too limiever, like you have to get every little thing straight and human error is punnished and normally you get kicked out unless you play by the exact rules. + you don't get to have any imagination. I'm better being a DM i suppose. my Roleplaying Melting pot is still open for new people you know, just because the story is underway doesn't mean you can't get invoulved. It hasn't even GONE anywhere yet so feel free to jump into that if you want. And um NWN is as close to playing D&D without dice as you can get as for the online communities, if you're willing to let someone else's immagination get the best of you, fine, go ahead, i'm not going to stop ya'. But i'll tell you,. its better to make a story for your own character and place him in someone else's hands for short persiods of time to play him trhough. But that's becuase i like telling and making stories. I suppose it is possible to LIKE being susceptable to another person's immagination... but I just can't STAND it... >_> I also wish that they could let you import your character from other D&D type games, and keep his inventory and stuff like when I play Tabletop RPGs, thats what My RPG lets you do too ya know... you could be a Demi-god for all I care and i'll still write you into the story ^_^
