K, I've been playing a 6 man party and have soloed some areas with Aerie, Anomen, and my bouny hunter.
I'm still in chapter two and don't have my boots of speed yet. I found out where they are but didn't keep the save because I didn't think I was of level to be there. Umber hulks were really annoying...and I tried to solo my bounty hunter here(got lost for being first game). Some of my questions: For each classes some ppl have soloed, say a rogue, what are some areas you DID NOT solo(doesn't have to be rogue here)? I'm sure you have to pick your battles. Mages look like they can handle any situation thru minor melee, spells, or thru items like wands. In the sewers in the Temple district however, I couldn't solo the "mind flayers" that well using normal tactics with Aerie. I did use Anomen to summon a pit fiend as bait while he(Anomen) was invisible for the flayers to waste spells on and then he had to quickly sanctuary again. Then Aerie simply went into the rooms to very slowly hit and run. Then I tried the cloudkill wand here and it works yet again. More power to the mages. In this sort of area, how can a simple melee guy make it thru 5 flayers? Aren't some battles just not fought? I can't see one cavalier shredding thru everything there is to be found in chapter two while staying only in chapter two. the game allows you to level up to beat the things found in this chapter but alot of the npcs call for different approaches. So for each class a person has soloed, what's some of the most troublesome things you couldn't pass? Would like to know since I'm having speculations that one class can pass everything. Going linear with the story line to beat the game however may be another case. Like say after trying and trying, what can't certain classes handle normally? Fighters: what they can't handle here so have to pass up in exp and loot thieves: mages: priests: druids: rangers: paladins: bards: monks: Feel free to add in whatever seems impossible to solo and even add in some tactics as to how a thief can acquire -said item- to beat something like a roomful of melee types and mind flayers.

Ok offhand, you have a party with you so you are leveling up slowly. People who solo go up in levels very quickly so they are better able to deal with things.
I did a kensai solo, that was difficult but its about the right items at the right time. oh and 18 dex. You use potions, girdles of piercing and so forth. You can work anything with the right stuff and you have loads of money due to no party so you arnt short the cash. Cloak of nondetection and invisability potions will give you the space to manouver. Honestly its all about thinking. I did a sorcerer solo too and that was far easier.

Soling all the way through w/o any NPC assitance is entirely possible. In certain situation soloers even gain an advantage since protections that would normaly leave 5 party members vulnerable can cover one person with ease. And when fighting you can concentrate control on one character, without worrying about whether or not that damned avariel has wondered into another ambush.
You do have to pick your fights to a certain extent though, just wadnering into the dragons lair unprepared is as suicidal for a soloer as for anyone. for monks: EASY : kobolds and the like, magic users of any description (including the big JI himself), standard human types, anything with a low save, beholders, Demi-Lichs, Vampires. MEDIUM : Members of the armed forces - they tend to have the equipment and numbers to cause some pain if you arent careful - Illithids, they can INT drain you, Adamantite Golems and Fire Giants have the THACHO and HP to cause some pain in groups > 2. HARD : Dragons with acceptable levels of AI scripting. Deities. IMPOSSIBLE : Nothing, but nothing, as long as you carry the correct equipment, IE something to cause fire or poision damage for those damn trolls.
