whats the difference between wisdon and intelligence? for example, if you were making a cleric/mage/soc and he had 12 for both int and wisdom and you 3 pts to distribute, how many points for each attribute, and why?
basically, is one better than the other?

Basically, intelligence is for mages, wisdom is for clerics. If you are a cleric/mage, you need both to be as high as possible. The higher either are the more spells you have or can have. I think sorcerers rely on charisma,(i've never played one), so they don't apply here. You can't have a sorcerer/anything combo anyway.

Intelligence measures a character's memory, reasoning and learning ability, and is the prime requisite of the mage (and sorcerer). It will influence how many spells you can learn and what chance you have of learning new spells.
Wisdom measures a characters enlightenment, judgment and common sense. It is the prime requisite of priests (clerics and druids). A high wisdom will also give you saving throw bonuses. So to answer your question, which one is better will depend on what character you are playing. If you're playing a cleric/mage, then they would both be important. ![]() And Aurican is correct - the sorcerer is a unique class - you can't multi or dual with it. |

quote: *gah* I was wondering why some of the npcs had better saves. Saves has always been important to me and here I didn't even know how it works. So can someone give more information as to what number of wisdom gives what sorts of bonuses to saves? Are there by any chance items that can increase int/wis to 18 as there are items that can raise str/dex to 18? (for SOA) I'll try to buy some of those wis potions to see if they have an instant affect on my saves. I'm remembering my main guy has a saves vs death at 9 or so and that isn't great at all - he's a lvl 15 bounty hunter with a wisdom below 10 I think. I think his int is 9.....ugh. Never knew this and thanks Memnoch for pointing it out.

Angry dwarf i'll help:
Strength:is for everyone (to carry stuff and hit harder) Dex:for everyone (to have better A.C Const:for everyone (for H.P) Int:sorcerres and mages(for spells) and also fighters because s.p.o.i.l.e.r... illithds drain int and when you are at 0 you die!!! wis:for clerics(fo spells) and to a lesser extent saving throws Charisma:no one really just reduces prices but this is useless because s.p.o.i.l.e.r... their is a ring of human influence (charisma 18) in the tent of waukeens promenade so really you should always have at least 16 str 18 dex at least 16 const and then if u are mage 18 int if cleric 18 wis if mage cleric 18 int 18 wis Charisma is useless because of the reason above And charisma is COMPLETELY without use for sorcs

Peewee,
Wisdom only affects saves versus mental spells i.e. charm, domination, confusion etc. Look in the back of the BG2 manual and you'll see a magic defence adjustment under the wisdom ability scores table. Low wisdom values for example, a WIS of 7 gives -1 saving throw penalty against mental spells. There are no items that increase INT or WIS to 18. You can find gold and silver Ioun stones in ToB which grant +1 INT/+1 WIS respectively. quote: Charisma has nothing to do with any spells AFAIK quote: Sorcers dont need high INT. This is because they dont learn spells from scrolls therefore dont need memory and learning ability (chance to copy scrolls into spell book therefore not applicable). With low INT values, they will still be able to pick the same amount of spells each time they level up and cast the same number of spells as sorcerers with high INT values. People tend to use high INT values however because of the roleplaying factor i.e. a dumb sorcerer is not very appealing to some, even though it won't affect the sorcerers abilities. LOL! when i made my second character, mental spells were very annoying because my chars points were something like:
STR:18 DEX:18 CON:1 ![]() INT:18 WIS:3 CHR:14 SPOILER.. - And when i had the dream, i sacrificed my wisdom, lowering it to 2 poits heh heh! |
