I hope someone can help me with this. I'm playing a multiplayer game with a friend, but for some reason I can't get his portrait to show up on my screen. He sent it to me, I put it in my portrait directory along with the ones for my character and still it won't appear on my screen. Yet he can see mine. Is there something I'm neglecting to do?

Please help!

Make sure that you have both the large and small picture. The large picture is for the Character screen, the small is for in-game (along the side). Can't think of any other reason that it wouldn't show up.

Hope that helps.

I have both the large and small portraits. Here's what I did though. When he first sent them to me I renamed them immediately because I had so many in my directory I was afraid I'd have trouble finding them. I probably didn't need to do that did I? They would've shown up automatically? Well, I guess this is a new problem for everyone as I only got one response. Hmm. I'll have to figure it out somehow.

Thanks RPGreg!

If you ask me, it's due to the fact that you renamed them. Your friend has them under a different name, and since he selected the portraits for his characters using his names, the game is searching for bitmaps with those names on your hard drive. But since you renamed them, it can't find them. I suggest renaming them again to what they were called originally.

J'aran, you're right. I discovered that this morning. I asked my friend to resend the portraits. This time I didn't change them and presto! they worked.

After I renamed them and found out they didn't work, I renamed them what they orginally were called, but it was too late obviously, although I can't think why.

Anyway, it's solved. Yay! hooray!

Tell him to make SURE that the filename is 8 characters or LESS. anything over 8 letters will not show up in the portrait choice menu.
