Bad Saves

Well, this weekend my harddrive crapped out. So redid it all. I installed W&W and dropped in the savegame files into the save folder in the C:\Program Files\Activision\WizardsWarriors directory. Now when I try to run the game it says "Savegame *Version Incompatible*" and the mouse doesn't work. Anyone know what I can do, or do I have to start over.

If you still have your old ROSTER.DAT file from the old game, try dropping that into the new main WizWar directory. That's the file that contains all the data on your character races, classes, levels, inventory and spells, and such. Hope you still have it. Hope, hope..

I'll cross my fingers when I see if the Roster.dat file is still ok on my old drive (it's at work right, I'm at home). Thanks a lot for the tip.

Hi,
Just got home from work and from voting and got the roster.dat on a floppy from the dead drive. The drive was very bad. Thankfully, that file was intact. I also got a little lucky in that 3 of the 7 saves ended up being good. Lucky mostly, because I'm fairly sure they were the last 3 saves I made Sunday.

Thanx for your heads up help on the roster file. If you hadn't mentioned that, I would have fdisk'd the drive into oblivion before sending it back for replacement and had no way to get my saves working.

Funny though, I lost all my e-mail and addresses and I'm happier that I could salvage the game. Some priorities, huh?
