Go with a Blade.
They are pretty good fighters, and good bards.
I think that the bard-song is good to have. But you dont need it to win every battle you fight, to say it like that.

For me playing a blade takes away the essential "bardiness" of being a bard. What use is having a bard if they can't use amazing songs? I think bard song is very useful at high levels (I know that this problem with blades can be countered by using HLA's in ToB, but that seems more of a loophole in the game than anything). Also blades are useless at identifying things, a very useful property of bards early on in the game. But in general it depends on your RP style, I think they aren't proper bards but some people think they rock.

skald is funny and it gives a great feeling of role-playing. and after all bards are not tanks I like to stay in long range with bows and spells and sometimes to defend myself with my shortsword.

use bard like a mage. cast spells stay in range with bow and then encourage your allies with your bard song. its very funny! I like skalds because they got a great song and you feel like a bard..

maybe they dont have too much warrior spirit soul? I found them a little bit noble than ordinary bards

I dont like the both of them i prefere the Jester, a jester is not a brilliant tank but his bard song that confuses enemies makes up for that, so when the jesters enemies are running around you can hit them with the best weapons you`ve got

Hi Zoltan,

The only question about Blade vs. Skald is: do you have, or are you going to get, ToB? If yes: go with the Blade. If no: go with the Skald.

At high (ToB) levels, you'll get a chance to upgrade your Blade's song to one which surpasses a Skald's song.

In the mean time, offensive spin rocks!

Here's my current Bard party:

Me = Tale (Blade)
Jaheira
Minsc
Yoshimo

The party stands like so:

J
Y M
T

in battle, and like so:

T
J
Y
M

while walking around.

Jah is my tank: her AC is -7, but then a bonus -3 or better for all kinds of damage (literally: -3 slashing, -4 crushing, -4 piercing, -3 missile). Minsc and Yoshimo wield bows in combat, and I sing or shoot arrows or cast spells.

I'd really like to try a party just like this one, but with me as an Archer, and Haer'Dalis as the bard. I suspect that this party would be absolutely killer.
