ToB is finally here in Ireland, at a cut price £24.99
I say cut price cause if I buy it I feel like cutting my wrists (course if I don't I'll feel like doing the same). Please note that the full price of a game over here is £34.99. My point is that they are charging me near full price (since many full games are 30.99 or even 24.99) for a one disk expansion. It seems rather a lot, especially if you consider that this is something that the company has probably held in reseve for the express purpose of milking fans of the game. I can't help but feel that TOB was always there, waiting to be released to screw the public. I can't shake the suspicion that ToB could easily have been included in Baldur's 2 but sales and marketing advised the company to sit on the conclusion to ensure that further profit would be extracted. Anyone else think that the expansion,, regardless of its quality came out quickly and at great expense? |

I dunno if this information is correct but
When BG2 was brought out Bioware expected to make BG3 one day When they were sold and were not able to make bg3 they made BG2 ToB to end the BG series About that it is too expensive ToB is bigger then some games so it could have the price of a whole game ceaper would have been better but still... ------------------ ![]() |

Although short:
It is the longest XPack and the XP cap and the completion of the story is weel worth it. It's £29.95 in the UK |

I can only repeat what has already been said, but in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established. I would have bought ToB if it cost $50.00 It is more than an expansion. It is a large, wonderful closure to the entire story plot.

The number of disks that make up the expansion is really not a proper judge of the contents I don't believe. Alot of full games come on 1 disk. The # of hours of gameplay in this expansion outnumbers many of the full games currently for sale. Also as someone else mentioned there was always intented to be a BG III but ToB is now the end of what was to be the baldur's gate trilogy. Realistically though I bet BG II would have been less of a product if they could not cash in on the expansion. I cannot think of a single game ever that was bigger than BG II. I'm sorry but saying to squeeze more than the already massive 100+ hours of gaming thats in BG II is pretty nutty!
I would have to say Bioware is the most honerable company in the gaming biz so I could not believe they are "milking" us. Sure they are in busines to make money but there are very few companies that spend as much time and money making sure they release a fully polished and bug free product that bioware does. I believe every product they release they raise the bar for quality. Most companies patch their games and save money by releasing them early. I would rather pay full price for an expansion as a thankyou than pay full price for a buggy game from another company. |

PS: I have played sequels to games that were far from sequels and barely an expansion (really more like patches) that have been at full price. ToB seems to be more a full game than most of these sequels outside of the fact that the original game is required to make it work.

I got it and I think it's worth the extra 4 hours I put in the office to pay for it.

Ah yes, I take all your points, unfortunately as a scrubby impoverished student I is broke, so I is unable to afford the neceesary moolah. Sad but true, I just hate expansions in general though, but I admit that I have heard only good things in general about ToB. I'm just annoyed at expansions I guess eg. I'm a big fan of HOMM and the HOMM3 was class. However, the number of expansions and scenarios etc that appeared afterwards was a joke...
