I would agree with you that Haer sux. He can, as someone stated cast spells
while wearing armor but he is a poor excuse for a bard. Bards need two things
a kick ass bard song and a high lore rate. Haer lacks and both making him no use.

What new char you want depends on what you need. I would suggest a cleric it sounds like you need one. In my opinion Viconia totally kicks Anomens ass. But then she is evil, allthough you have Edwin in your party so I bet that wouldn´t be a problem. Others are Keldorn, Mazzy (she is strong with the bow) and my personal favourite Korgahn. Just choose but get rid of Haer.
And another pointer: Don´t waste your time on Imoen. I think she is the most boring character in all of BG2, and she´s rather lame too. No NPC-related quests either (if I´m not mistaken?).

Sorry, I have no idea on that matter. I have never partaken in the Jahiera romance, and so don't know how to fix any bugs that the CLUAConsole doesn't fix.

That´s a shame... You missed something, but it´s quite messy ( a lot of bugs).
