Hi

Can anyone tell me if its best to follow the mage back to the kids cell and kill him first or attack the dragon

Do wathever you eant, but I prefer killing him right away.

Funkster, I think it would be better to kill that mage at first. So you can save the kid and will have a quest done (partually done). And then you will feel free making decision - to kill or not to kill the dragon right now...
You know, that dragon, he is not very simple task

Remember, once you've faced the dragon, you'll have to face the mage straight away, which is not necesarily easy. I'd go with killing the mage first, then going back for Firkraag if/when you are ready.

There is plenty of time for the dragon later, it is best to take out the mage and save the child first.
