Where are these so-called "5th level mage spells" in Baldur's Gate? I've seen some opponents use "Cloud-Kill," but I haven't found any 5th level spell scrolls to be used by my characters. Where can these be found/bought (Sorcerer's Sundries in BG only sells levels 1-4)? Also, if magi need 90,000 exp points to advance to a level that will allow them access to 5th level spells and the game only allows you to advance to 89,000 exp points, how are the 5th level spells possible in Baldur's Gate (aside from using them as quick items)? Help. . .

I think that 5th level spells are only intended to be used as scrolls - hence the exp cap. There are some to be found. I have a scroll of 'cloudkill' which I have been saving for a rainy day, but I found it so long ago I can't remember where I found it! Chap 2, possibly. I'm sure some of the 'gurus' on this board will tell you exactly where it was, but it might be too far back to warrant the mission to find it. Anyway, maybe there are some others to be found...

Thanks for the feedback--I'll keep my eyes open. I've noticed that certain items found on enemies appear at random, and it's possible these 5th level mage spells fall into that category. Anyway, if you do eventually recall where you found it, let me know. Ciao!

Axe: in TOTSC, the xp cap is up at 161,000 - and more 4th and 5th level spells can be found all over the place.
