I have my party now, but since i have never gotten too far in the game (chronic restarter) im not sure which weapons are best later on. also, which races are best for each class?

my party will be:

cavalier
kensai -> thief
sorcerer
some kind of cleric

1) Your party is already size 6. That's pretty fat. You won't be able to start with Imoen or use any NPC. I recommend a party of at most 4. My first time all the way through I played with this party:

Human Cavalier
Dwarven Fighter/Cleric
Elven Sorcerer
Gnomish Thief/Illusionist

In retrospect it would have been best to start without the Gnome and have just picked up Jan once Imoen went away. I also kept Jahera and Imoen, once I got her back.

Do you have ToB? If so, multi-class characters are more powerful than dual-class characters. Revenge of the Demi-Humans!

Crom Fayer is good, and the Equaliser is OK...
but ofcourse there are some realy good weapons u can get early in the game...
Daystar- +2 Longsword (+4 Vs. Evil, DOuble Damage vs. UNdead) which u get from the lich in the Crooked Crane.
Anything u buy from the Bonus Merchants is good (if u dont have them, u can download a patch that gives them here.
And the staff if Rynn+4 u get from Rybald in the adventures mart is as far as i know the best quarterstaff in the game. And ofcourse since uv got a cavalier theres the Holy Avenger...
BTW- i have read something at the bg2 Website that seems to contradict many things i have read here at IW...
Is The Holy Avenger only useable by a Paladin or is it +2, +5 in Paladin hands??

Monk use your hands..nuff said.

cavalier-two handed sword and twohanded weapons skill for that really good youknowwhat sword

sorcerer-quarterstaff - there are several good ones in the game

cleric - flail and sword and shield skill, give flail of ages and best shield you have, becomes decent tank

kensai/thief - two weapon skill, and katanas and long sword

blade - I would dump this character so you can bring along NPC's to do their quests.

Ooops ... I forgot about the weapons part ... d'oh!

Okay, here goes:

Cavalier:
++ Axes (best missile weapon allowed)
++ Two-Handed Swords
+ Two-Handed Weapon Style
+ Halberd?

Kensai/Thief:
++++ Katana++ Single Weapon Style
Sorcerer:
+ Quarterstaff
+ Darts (who cares? you're never going to use a weapon with this guy)

Fighter/Cleric:
++ Mace
++ Flail/Morningstar
+ Sword-and-Shield Style
+ Sling
(later ++ Hammer)
Normal Cleric:
+ Mace
+ Sling
+ War Hammer
+ Sword-and-Shield Style
(if you have a high strength: + Flail/Morningstar)

Skald:
+ Two-Handed Weapon Style
+ Halberd
+ Quarterstaff
+ Shortbow

Blade:
++ Two-Weapon Style
+ Scimitar/Wakazishi/Ninja-To (for Belm and the Scarlet Ninja-To)
+ Katana (for Dakkon's Zerth Blade)
