Eh so for the first time I said to myself, "What the hell, lets try a solo game". Besides, I've been playing my never-ending game now for almost 1 and a half years (on and off) and my party still hasn't gotten into the thirties (although that power glove is so, so useful with my gadgeteer).

So I create the classic soloing class, Female Fairie Ninja. And already I'm having problems. I was lucky enough to get to monastery part number two (Can you believe I actually critical killed Gregor at level 6 into round 3, it made my day). But now the dreaded uber Rat Fight has come up, and those annoying pestilence rats rape me every single time. I am able to ambush them in one of the corridors so I am fighting one or two at a time. But they pack a serious punch with their bites- I keep getting diseased, poisoned, etc.

Another problem is with stamina. My fairie burns through stamina like Lance Armstrong burning through calories. I've used up all my stamina potions, and my water points are literally crap so spell casting stamina usually does more harm than good.

Any advice on what I should do? Should I restart the game? I don't know if this is a good Fairie Ninja approach, but I decided to pump points into Vitality (for health+stamina) and speed (initiative+armor). My critical strike is in its upper 50's, my stealth is around the mid 40's. I have 49 points in martial arts (one more is all I want). I'm thinking of restarting my character, but I hate doing that.

From 11/23/03 I said in a thread here called Solo Faerie Ninja:

"I'm trying a Female Faerie Ninja on solo, I had to put the difficulty on Novice because she could not survive otherwise. She is lev 6 now and not a very good fighter, she has only her fists and some darts for weapons. I did the trick where you start as another race of Ninja to get the Ninja armor and immediately switched to Faerie. She's lev 9 armor now and it's starting to help. She needs about 20K to go to lev 7. I thought about changing her to Bishop so have been building those stats at the expense of fighting..."

I eventually made her a bishop and back to ninja. I had the same problem as yourself: you find yourself in a corner with no way to fight your way out. I always (well, almost) kept a saved game which I could fall back to.

I never did the "keep a dead character around" trick. Although it was a difficult experience, it's worth trying at least once! A vous sante...

Edit: I kept a save in Mon I and had to re-enter Mon 2. When I rested in Mon 2 the rats wiped me as well. I forget how I handled stamina. I didn't go 18 levs as bish, much less (looking at the ref above). I switched back to normal difficulty somewhere around Arnika I think.

The most important thing, in this particular challenge, it to keep all fights 1 on 1 in the early game. (Or, any fight vs a formidable opponent such as the rabid rats) do this by squeezing in doorways and luring monsters into narrow passageways. Never have more than 1 monster hitting you at the same time! And be prepared to save pretty often and reload, because some fights will take some luck (it IS rather tough in the first few levels, so don't feel like you're doing something wrong).

Also, for what it's worth, I don't think this type of game is much of a challenge. But it does provide for an interesting experience up until Arnika. The thing about fairie ninjas is that they rarely get hit with attacks once stealth is built up enough, and if you train your magic skills they get major magic resistances. Then everything becomes really, really easy.

But running around with one fairie smacking the crap out of anything that looks at you funny is actually pretty fun for awhile.

As for the stamina issue: I can't remember if I used the stamina book, but one trick you can try is to put the lone enemy you are fighting to sleep (with faerie dust or the fairie stick weapon) and just defending until it wakes up. And keep a stock of stamina potions at all times.

Hrmm, soloing doesn't seem that appealing. It isn't the death factor, but I think I'd much rather play through the whole game with an enjoyable cast of characters rather than a single fairie who goes "Oh my! I believe I'm hurt" everytime she gets wacked around.

Back to Crusaders of the Dark Savant for me

Yeah, but it's quite a thrill if you make it to the point where you can take on the entire away-camp with just your lone faerie with a cane and some tsunamis, toxic/death clouds, and a few earthquakes for good measure!

Yo, I soloed a female faeire, gave her some levels as monk and then swtiched to bishop. I think if you 'practice' your stealth skill a little bit the fights will not be too hard anymore. The stamina prob remains, of course, so you might want to build up the appropriate attributes for that.
Apart from that, I agree with the impression that soloing is fun and boring at the same time. Fun because you get shitloads of xp, boring because taking out 10 rapaxesssss can be a long process, but you know that you will win eventually. I changed back to playing a party, though.
Good luck if you keep on trying!
