Hi

I'm in a little dilemma:
- I want to try Flame's mod as soon as possible.
- I won't have a lot of time until the end of april.

So I want to use a lot of the new items but I don't want to waste hours or days by starting over and over again until I find the apropriate classes. And that's the point where I need your help.

I have already read that it is rewarding to include a lord, gadgeteer and bard. Are there any limitations (like the obvious "avoid fairies") that I should be aware of? Are there other classes that get a bunch of new goodies? I'm especially interested in a samurai, are there new alternatives to muramasa blade?

There are special items you can buy (spoiler 1) for: Felpurr, Mook, Dracon/Lizard, Gnome/Hobbit, Elf.
A Mace-wielder with Racial Base Strength of 45 or higher gets (spoiler 2)
Ninja or Monk gets (Spoiler 3)
Gnome gets (spoiler 4)
Faeries CAN use shields, if the class they are can! (spoiler 5)

1) Bela sells them: amulet, amulet, gloves, tunic, cuirass, respectively. Level Sensor, iirc, at 15.
2) you have to be strong for the giant Mace you get when you kill the LAva Lord.
3) Borlone always drops the Gloves of the Master
4) Shield very nice for gnomes in the cave with Anselm
5) Shield of the Monarch (butterfly) drops (X%) from some of the Sprites, including the fixed ones next to Fuzfas.

Alternatives to Muramasa.....I wouldn't know I wasn't lucky enough to even find one, but the drop from the Djinn in the gigas caves flag quest is an excellent off-hand sword assuming you have the DEX to handle it.

There is also a nice off-hand throwing weapon for Samurai, Monk & Ninja (think "Zena"). I've never found it before the Mod, not that that in itself means its a new item.

oh, yah, i forgot those, and:
Modern Weapons is definitely worth it, there's one that's ammo-free that fries stuff really well, AND for Rogues only some nice Armor.

Ok, half the party is ready:

Unsure things are italicized.

Glod Dolgson:
Male Dwarf Priest, will become a lord at level 2, focuses his attributes at str and dex and his skills on divinity and maces. Would you recommend learning a second weapon skill?

Aida:
Female Mook Bard, will switch to fighter at higher levels, focuses her attributes at str and dex and her skills on mythology and swords (music is easy to train).

Irina:
Female Felpurr Gadgeteer, will always be a gadgeteer, focuses her attributes on dex and speed and her skills on engineering and traps.

Above all, I'm not sure if I really want to create another three characters. Last time I played with a Bard & Bishop Duo and really liked the fast level ups. Altough I would appreciate a character who can focus on alchemy. A pure alchemist sounds a bit boring, I don't like rangers and I always had bishops in my parties. Is there a nice way to play a ninja without using the common CoC wielding fairy? Are there other good weapons (read: useful until the end) for ninjas?

Try this party, compliments of Jetlaw on the VN Boards.

Dwarf Lord (new Lord armours, 2 new Dwarf misc items, one of which is regenerative. Concentrate on maces for the uber mace already mentioned)

Felpurr Ninja (new throwing weapons, one already mentioned above and unique regenerative misc item)

Hobbit Samurai (new regenerative armour)

Elf Bard (Elven Bow now available, new regenerative armour and new instruments)

Felpurr Gadgeteer (you've already chosen one and can use unique regenerative Felpurr misc item apart from new Gadgie stuff)

Gnome Bishop (new regenerative armour, new shield and can use any of the 4 new specialist caster staffs)

Alternatively, a Faerie Bishop as you can now get a new shield as mentioned above and, as been said, various types of Sprites now drop Faerie boots, leg armours and gloves (which were already in the original game I think).

I realise that other races may be better suited for these professions but this party will make good use of the majority of the new stuff in the mod.

For a threesome, try the Dwarf Lord, Felpurr Ninja and Gnome/Faerie Bishop.

Warning, the sword mentioned in Mt Gigas caves is hidden so put Detect Secrets on. I didn't know about the sword and didn't know it was hidden so missed out on it until I had almost completed the game.

Scatter is right. Approx 2/3 months ago I ascended with a 2 Bard and 2 Gadgeteer party (loads of fun) which were very lucky. I got the sword from the Mt Gigas caves and two more from Djinns on AP and the Mountain Wilderness. Much joy.

Needless to say, in more recent games I've only got the sword in the caves, not from any drops. Plenty of Djinn Eyes though. Oh well.

Your party of 4 looks OK to me, Felpurr Ninjas are now one of my favourite characters.
