I have definitely purchased a short staff from Atone in Arnika, put it was early in the game - I don't know if it becomes unavailable later on. One sure-fire way of getting a short staff (not much of an option for your wife now, however) is to start an Alchemist (at least a non-fairy one, I suppose) - who gets a short staff as starting equipment. But I've never had any trouble purchasing a short staff when I've made a point of doing it early in the game.

Good luck. I've had the same problem. But if you're really desperate ... BIG OLD SPOILER:
Them there T'rang carry a lot of short staves. I had lots of trouble finding one later in the game until I accidentally ticked off Mr. Z'Ant and got the T'rang on my case. Then it was a short staff extravaganza. I think it is the Watchers who carry them. Of course this is a pretty extreme solution to such a small problem. |

I've had a similar problem with my lvl 20-21 party, that I could not find a dagger for one of the retros. Then on the Arnika-Trynton road a lvl 3 rogue group I ran into dropped 2 of them.

Burz in the Monastery sells them too (long trip back--I know--take advantage of Portal.)

Burz. Every 3 rest periods (= one day) he really does have new stock. It may take a few days but he has the lowest value stuff.

If you save just before lipping the merchant, you can reload to get a different inventory. The inventory gets new stuff twice a day, and dumps stuff once, in 8-hour shifts.

Hm. Scatter, I've seen merchant stuff not change after 2 full rests, although sometimes it does. I like your idea of saving before talking (if you haven't seen them for a while)and reloading if you don't like the selection.

"I've seen merchant stuff not change after 2 full rests"
Only when you first meet them, or when they have everything they're gonna have. [ 02-27-2004, 03:57 PM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |
