Book of Portals

Hello everyone! I just bought Wiz 8 about a month ago and I've been lurking these boards for a while but this is my first post.

I've got a question about the Book of Portals. I usually find at least one, sometimes 2 of these as I go through Tryton and the swamp ( I'm on my 4th party as I keep restarting as I learn the ropes but I'm determined to stick with this party ). However do I want to use these books? I tried using one once and it looked like it only added Set Portal to my spell list and not Return Portal. Where as selecting "Portal" as a spell pick on level up gives you both spells.

Did I just miss the Return Portal in my spell list when using the book or would I be better of selling the book because I would need to pick Return Portal on level up anyway?

Sorry, I just wasted everyones time.

After I posted that message I thought to do a search and I found several threads that answered my question for me.

I think I'll just pick the spell for my bishops but save a set/return pair of the books for my ranger for when she has enough skill to learn them.

Actually, if still possible i'd rather use the pair of books for the bishop and pick the spell by the ranger, since books are so much more valuable for bishops, with so many spells to pick.

Oh, and there are all in all 3 Books of set, and 3 books of return to portal scattered throughout the maps (and there's even a vendor who sells them).

When picking a portal spell on leveling up, I found if you choose Return to Portal you get both spells whereas you only get one spell if you choose Set Portal. Sometimes you get an extra spell pick on the next leveling if you chose Set but not always!

Although by the time you get to that vendor, the books are more useful for hybrids rather than pure spellcasters. I prefer to take the spells by a pick for bishops, since you get two for one pick, and the sooner I have a portal to use, the better.

I think I'll end up choosing the spells for my Bishops as I'd like to get the portal spells as soon as I can and I'm trying to not read too many spoilers so I'm not sure when I'll encounter the other books.

I don't really know where I'm going as I've only been on a handful of maps so far so I'll probably be bumping into quite a few monsters and end up at twice the level you experts are when I eventually ascend. That will give my bishops plenty of level up spell picks. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Hah, Zig, i've never gotten only one if i pick, no matter which i pick, i get both. Every game so far.
