Do raising ARTIFACTS improve their performance?

Not their Instrument or Gadget Performance, if that's what you mean.
It does allow any character to identify items (the higher the Skill the more powerful item), plus it is used to calculate the success for using certain items. The description of the item itself describes which Skills, like Throwing and Sling or Artifacts, are required for it's successful use. |

If you don't have enough Artifact skill, things like Death Bombs (which do NOT have any requirements) will backfire and wipe you out.

Hmm I'm not sure death bombs would depend on artifacts - most of the bombs rely on the thrown/sling skill AFAIK? Are you saying that if you throw an unidentified bomb there's a higher chance to fumble/backfire?

AFAIK powders and potions (bomb) rely on throwing skill.
Some scrolls need artifact skill to read, but i don't know if they may fizzle/backfire depending on artifacts skill. |

well, i remember the time i had PP'd one from Burz and nobody had any points in throw/sling skill, i had my best archer throw it and it backfired about half the time (around a dozen reloads, trying to get Prospero off the raiders in the Phooney statue room) Then i gave it to the Bard, whose Art's i'd been boosting with Amulet of Static, and she only backfired once in a couple dozen more tries...
And there are artifacts, like the A of S, which backfire if your Art's skill is low, and they have no minimum... And most scrolls fizzle if your Art's is too low--kinda stupid; you need about half as much Art's to make Scroll of ID work on something as you would need to ID it directly! And Mana Stones, they don't work about half the time until you got over 30 Art's. [ 09-05-2003, 07:01 PM: Message edited by: Scatter ] |
