I have read that some people have used Hypnotic Lure effectively. Evertime I try to use it, nothing really seems to happen. My question is for those people that like Hypnotic Lure, How are you using it so it does something wortwhile?

Okay, I have not been playing W8 for a long time; please forgive me if the information provided is too vague.
Once you have activated/casted the spell, the shape of the mouse will change to the shape of a staff (area effect spell always do that in W8). Move the staff to the area closest to the enemies and left click. Some of the monsters/enemies might be hypnotized by the spell and gathered around the "lights". Those that are unaffacted by the spell will continue to attack your party. This will split the enemies into two ranks which is easier for your party to deal with. Needless to say, this spell works best when your party is a bit further away from the enemy. If the enemies are too near to your party, most of them will ignore the spell effect entirely. Seems to me its important to cast it in the right spot: I think it works best if its in the enemys line of site. Also seems better against low int. attackers.
Faced with a slow moving enemy like gators or millipedes, cast it as far away as you can BUT in a spot where it will still be between you and them after they move. For fast movers like most flying critters, cast it very near yourselves. Like Terror and blindness, the point of hypnotic lure is to lower the number of attackers going after you in a given round, which lessens the damage you take and gives your guys a chance to off them before they can strike you. Its a very good fire magic trainer, and is also availble as a gadge item. HTH Oru |

Also it can be an effective "pre" combat spell if you combine it with x-ray. You can put up a hypnotic lure way in between the party and the red dots on the map and it will stay in effect for quite some time. Then get just close enough to the monsters so that they notice you and start to follow you, and lead them past the lure, attack when they see it and start to be effected by it.
