Hey is anyone else out here excited about shadowbane.
Ive never played a MMORPG, but thie is the first one i will buy.
It seems almost perfect.
They have taken the best out of the D&D type charachter class system, and made it better.
Plus its a game with a whole history written out.
It also seems to blend all of the good things that other MMORPG's have seperately.
The only drawback i can see for me at least, is that its not first person.
But at least the kinda third person view isnt as bad at the Baldurs Gate type view that is so popular now a days.
I hope Ironworks decides to build a forum for this game soon.
It looks to be the EPIC rpg some of us have been waiting for.

I've never been a big proponent for games that you have to pay every month, AND pay for software. If you're paying $10 a month, at least make the CD's free.

I'm perfectly happy by myself playing single-player games, or games over a LAN. I pay one price and that's it. I can't imagine if I were on EQ for the last 2 years... paying $240 plus the cost of all the CD's and expansions. I'd rather use the money to get a PS2 with some games that'd last quite some time.

If quake 3 can put Bots in to play with you, I'm sure they can come out with Multiplayer RPG's with the same technology.

I gurarantee you though, some company will come out with a pay per month MMORPG that has FREE CD's and maybe even a free month of play (after a certain amount of time), and it will dwarf EQ, UO and all the others. As for me, I'll just sit down to my Single Player Diablo2.

There is an online game called Lineage (sp?) free software and trail period, but monthly after that.. whats that MMorg? stand for btw..

BTW the best (and worst) rpging online can be found for free, and has been around for years.. MUDS (multi user dungeons?).. many systems types, all text, any type of theme you can dream of.. I play where rping is enforced and there is the least immortal/implamentor direct ooc interference.. bad spelling today.. anyway if anyone is a die hard rpg fan and can do without graphics, check out a rping mud and play with hundreds of people for free.

Frosty:

Shadowbane is a nice game but it really depends. Do you like PvP (Player Vs. Player) type games or do you prefer to do quests and such. If this is the case SB has alot of quests but it is also almost "exclusively" a PvP game. The graphics are well done, the character setup/skills is a little different from other games but will make it that bit different that it will appeal to others.

I seriously considered getting this when its released but after "3 years" of Ultima Online & then playing Everquest, Asheron's Call and so on the PvP just got kind of boring. The problem with PvP in MMORPG's is that players dont like a challenge when they are after your items/money. They will wait around by a spot where you load into an area from another area. (Usually these spots are named as "zones" and going to one area from another is referred to as "zoning"). When you Zone from one area to another you have a short time difference from when your character is there compared to when you are there. (This is reflected mainly by internet connections. Exmp: Lag, Slower COnnection via. ISP., etc, etc). So basically what happens is you zoen in & are killed before you even get into the zone properly if you have a 56k or slower modem or are lagging. Another method with PvP is people will kill you or saw you get killed. They will wait near your corpse & as soon as you pick up some stuff from your corpse they will kill you again for the items/money. It's boring towards in the end for players when people will camp a corpse or zoneline instead of actually doing it in a fashion that will be challenging.

SB looks to be another "corpse retrieval" type of game that this will happen frequently in.

I've been following this little known game throughout it's developement for quite a while now. However, since I can't afford to be charged to play I may give it a miss if it suddenly becomes a bad case of company only subscriptipn servers that'd rip off my meagre bank balance seriously. I mean, having the internet block the phone line is bad enough.

as far as i know ur starting spots for this game will always be inside a your city, and nobosy can kill you in your city or else the city's guards will kill them.

each city will have its own rules since the towns will be made up mostly from the players.
but for new players they will spawn at one of the company's safe cities.
there u will have lots of small quests and dungeons undedr the towns where u can level up get strong and head out to the other towns that are on good terms with yours.
or even get a group and go kill some of ur enemies that are out adventuring too.
and if u want to enter and kill people in another city u will have to lay siege to that town.
wich takes hours.

so i think that takes care of the zoning problem

Thats correct but you missed soemthing

In SB other teams (players from another city) can besiege your own home town, & kill you in your own hoime town if they can manage to get inside etc. So basically get 2 or 3 tough enough or well versed players in the game & your own home town isnt safe anymore

yes but its gonan take more than 24 hours for a siege to take place.
so it gives everyone time to get together and defend their home.

It wasnt the fact that you could Siege towns it was the fact that because you can seige towns other players from other towns can get into the towns even when there isnt a seige if they are strong enough or well versed enough in the game & kill people in your own town.

but then they would get jumped by the other citizens
they wouldnt make it out alive
so that makes it so people wont want to do that.
and besides if they do that he might even get reprimanded by his own clan cuz now the clan he attacked might not allow anyone from his clan to come into the city.

also u can let only clans that u are allied with have acces to ur town.
