I'd say go with a fighter. You really need one good tank up front, and a samurai just doesn't cut it for that. Especially not early on.

quote: I must disagree. In my last game the samurai was the tank and never go in real trouble. He got only waxed one or two times in the intire game. Then you have your healer do their job. A bard can be build up as a tank. I did that as well. He need few to become a good player so you have time to invest a lot in vitality. Only half game my samurai was able to match and pass my bard.

Well, none of my Samurais ever worked out well. My fighters were always better in combat, and I'd certainly want at least one fighter up front in any party.

I gotta disagree also Nightowl. I "never" use a fighter nowdays and only use hybrids or a rogue as a 2nd tank.
Barnybyrd. Fairie Ninja is a good choice if you get the CoC for a melee fighter. Rogues are also a nice choice especially if you build up thier stealth skill for the defense & can deal quite a bit of damage while effectively dual wielding. I personally find fighters to get a tad boring due to thier stats/skills capping out fast and no real specialty class skills compared to the others. My other suggestion is maybe another caster type. My usual groups are a combination of 2 melee types,2x bishop & 2 different types like either a bard & rogue or gadgeteer & rogue or Bard & rogue. with your current group though i highly suggest a fighter type since between you current list you have hybrids & bishop all can use spells at some point + a bard & gadgeteer. I personally dont like lords cause they remind me of paladins & if you read the quote in my Sig you will understand that since paladins are considered to be goody goodies. Valks are good if you want a polearm wielding character for the flanks. If you pick up RFS-81 you could have your valk using polearm on 1 flank & your mook ranger on the other with a giant's sword. with sam & rfs-81 up front & gadgeteer/bishop middle or rear.

If you take the dracon fighter you have almost my exact party with the one difference is my bishop is a fairy.
I am finding this group to be very good. Currently my gadgeteer is the weakest member but supposedly he doesn't come real good until your levels are in the mid teens. |

Don't be a trendy freak and follow the crowd with a Faerie Ninja.
What do you want from your party? Pure melee? One tank up front distracting while everyone else bombard with ranged and spells? Pure speed? Dracon Fighter - High HP count, can KO mobs, high STA regen for lengthy fights, high STR for encumbrance, Dragon Breath (great early on when you're swarmed by Soldier Ants, Forest Mites). Sounds cool with Voice 1 Burly, or Voice 2 Laidback. Valkyrie - Second best HP count with Lord, bonuses to Polearm, her Cheat Death skill, but there's Vi you can get early in the game and she is a Valkyrie. I think SirTech did an adequate job balancing out the classes with each other, so whatever is your cup of tea or rocks your boat, run with that group. [ 03-01-2002: Message edited by: Annheiser ]
