Spoilers
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .I beat the Temple with lev 8 and 9 chars, standard party of 6 with no NPCs. From reading comments on this board that is pretty early on in the game, and in no way trying to say "aren't I clever sod" I thought the 'technique" that worked for me might be of interest to some players, so here it is! I tried loads of different approaches and my guys got mashed, but after a few hours of attempts this happened to work.... Cast all the usual protection spells and stand to the side of the doorway, then sidestep in front of them at the same time as hitting the combat icon, I eventually managed to surprise them. Ran towards a stairway, I aimed for the left one but I dont think it would matter, left or right. Got two thirds of the way there without much damage. Next round ran to the stairs, took loads of damage before I got the run and lost 1 char, but made it half way up the stairs. The bad guys then marched out the front of the temple!! Combat doesnt seem to work on an up/down basis, only on a single plane. So they all went out the front of the Temple while I watched from my lofty vantage point and combat ended. I cleaned up all the goodies from both stairs, healed etc then went down the crypt area, killed them (they arent tough), got the goodies, armed my guys with the new found nice stuff and went to the front doorway. All the bad guys were out front. I side-stepped out again until I surpised them and checked two Elemental bottles (all I had) and took quite a lot of damage but lost no chars and ran back inside. The Elementals took out most of the Sorceresses but not the Queen and the Death Kights. Healed etc then took on the Queen ok when she came in. Then all was left was the two Knights (who stayed outside). Went into combat mode, ran out and killed one and got his sword for my Mook fighter, ran back in the Temple (I was pretty beat up), healed etc then went back out and killed the last one. Thats it. Most fun I have had in the game, I'm at Lev 20 now and about to go to Rappax and nothing has been as much fun as that earlier battle!! (I was playing on "Normal" difficulty, I dont think I could have done it on "Expert".) There was a certain sadisitic pleasure in using their own items to kill them! I've read that you can entice the Queen etc out and snipe them off one at a time but that didnt work for me, there was no good crevice to lurk in except by the walls of the Temple and the Knights kept killing me THROUGH the walls, and they didnt come out one at a time but in droves and cast multiple Elemental spells. |
