I have just received the following error message which kicks me out of Wizardry 8 (BTW, I'm on the road about to enter Trynton - the pop-up message to enter Trynton appears and I click 'yes' and then the game crashes):

missing texture file:

Level\Trynnie\Bitmaps\WaterFlow0015.jpg

When I purchased this game (not too long ago), there were 3 patches and I downloaded and installed them all. Did I do it incorrectly or is this an easy problem to solve by re-loading all 3 disks?

If I have to re-load all 3 disks, will it erase my current saved game? I've spent a lot of time so far and would hate to lose what I have saved/played so far.

Also, there is only one patch at Wizardy8.com now(I've also posted this topic there), is this the only patch I need? If I have to re-load, is this the only patch I need to install (I have all 3 patches saved on my PC)?

Any help would be appreciated and my thanks in advance.

(BTW, nice site - I'm new here and have read a lot of helpful stuff)

Hello and Welcome!

The missing file would be the result of a bad install. You can copy your Saves folder to another spot on your hard drive and uninstall, then reinstall the game to make sure you can keep them...just move the folder back after you re-install.

Only apply one patch when you are finished reinstalling...the latest one will be enough.

I only used the first patch (it fixes a crash at Ascension Peak) and never needed any of the others so if you have that one, feel free to use it and then use the others if you run into the problems that they were made to correct...this way you don't get the fix on pickpocketing that makes it so people know you are stealing from them even when you are successful.

If you need to use the latest patch after using the first, just let it write over everything it asks to.

just remember, once you have upgraded a patch to the next version, you can't go back to an earlier patch. your saves won't work.

so if you had the first one, played. then installed the last one, and played till now, if you go back to the first patch then ALL the savegames made with the last patch won't operate under the old patch.

in other words, savegames are not backwards compatible with the patches. you can do it, but you have to start the game over AND create new characters also.

V***V

EDIT

PS: heya moni!! did you realize that your dracolich avatar looks friendly? it looks like its smiling and waving!

Thanks again for the replies.

I guess I'll un-install, then re-install. What a crock! All of that work for nothin'! (sort of)

I also posted in the patch topic; gotta go read that one too.

Thank you for the reminder about saved games and patches!
That completely slipped my mind!

Nothing better than having a happy Dracolich avatar LOL.
I like it!
