Hi!
9 years in the waiting and I have it! Couldn't wait forever for it to reach the shops in UK so just bought it from Chips and Bits in USa and had it DHLed - 80 bucks but worth it I reckon.

And so... my first sort of "problem" - I am importanting chars from Wiz7 and they get shown on the screen in teh order that they were in the previouse game, but I am having to change some (like to Gadgeteer) but the on screen ordser is all "wrong" - just doesnt feel right. I realise I can change their formation order, but after a zillion years I am used to seeing my hitters up front and mage at back. But I cant find any way to actually swap them around, have I missed something obvious?

Thx!

I think you cannot change the position in the slots. You can only change the formation for combat. If you want to change the slots you must create a new game.

It was strange for me as well. But you quickly adapt to focusing on the formation area when you need to remember where people are in spite of their position on screen. It also is nice once you get used to it because you always know who is where on the screen regardless of their class.

One tip: If you want more than 3 people in melee range, don't put anyone in your front rank - put them in your flanks and center position and move your protected people to the back rank. If you remember to keep your back against a wall you won't get flanked so they can stay relatively safe back there and can still reach the front with extended weapons.

Thanks for the advice.

One question though, how do I keep my back to the wall? Combat starts when the bad guys are in view and unless I "waste" a turn by going into run or walk mode you cant actually make it so you are againsta wall etc. Or is that the point?!

When you are exploring an area walk along any massif wall, stone or decore element. I always follow the border of a map, unless I totally discover the map and know the area is save of BIG stacks of impossible monsters. Also if you have X-Ray you can avoid bad situation encouters.

You need to walk the edges of the maps. But wasting a turn isn't that big of deal if you're a strong melee party. Especially if you're chock-full of cursed weapons. Then wasting a turn to let the enemies close a bit isn't quite so bad, even if you're next to a wall.

Actually combat starts when your party is in the view of bad guys and not the opposite. (you can overwrite that by starting combat manually.)

Casting the chameleon spell without casting the light spell helps you to sneak up, and surprise the opponents or at least start the combat when *you* want it.
