I have been reading post after post and see you have party in the 12, or some have party in the 15 and "JUST ARRIVED ARNIKA?"

I am in the SWAMP and still level 10.. This is my 2nd outing of the game and made sure I clear the area of monsters. In my last game, my party is level 12~14 and just reached Bayjin Shallows.

Im pissed... where are the freakin EXP coming from? Killing a group or mob of monsters is giving me like 2000~5000 exp per member and I need 250,000 exp to level up, that means I need 50 encounters. Heck, I am getting only 5 encounters per area! Ok, to be honest I got around 8~10 encounters the whole area of Trynton, including the kill the rat quest and the zoo.

Do you rest alot? I mean, do you rest after several encounters just to have the game respawn the monsters in the area? I do rest after several encounters to replenish mana but seldom do I need this because, while walking around, my bishops regen enough mana for the fight. what does power level 2,3 spells would cost in mana? <--- this means, the encounters are to few, I had to walk around long enough for mana to regen on its own before sighting enemies.

I also did that secret dungeon by the cemetary and got nothing more than a few thousand exp. <-- not worth the effort

I guess it depends on whether you go straight to Arnika or not. Plus some of those people arriving at Lvl 12-15 might not have started at the Monastery but instead at Gigas or the Bluff if they imported from Wiz 7 and had allied with the T'rang or Umpani at the end of it.

My last game I didn't go straight to Arnika from the Monastery, I went up to the Northern Wilderness, did the Diamond thing, cleaned out the nasty Hogar and did THAT Retro Dungeon (well, 1/2 of it) before I headed to Arnika so when I got there I was 11-12 level already. That was with no resting on the road -- only in the Dungeon did I rest.

I am in the tree at Trynton and am mostly at level 12 (my six characters plus to NPCs -- Myles and Vi). Perhaps I am a bit higher in level than you because I did more running around on the roads between the towns. The monsters never seem to get cleared out.

It may be that those who have made it up to level 15 don't have as many characters??? Or did more running around??

Did you do the graveyard?

I did... gave me only a few thousand maybe 50,000 each. The only difficult part here is the Baron Englund and his ghost trynnies.

Im not sure what you mean by running around. I clean areas, whole map. Once i got the wheel key in arnika, I traveled all the way back to monastery and cleaned everything in sight. <--- a few monsters!

One thing I noticed in this game; if my party is down in health and decided to REST, gangs of monsters would bother me up. But if im in full health, noone seems to bother my party. Seems like the game gave the monsters some NOSES to sniff out BLOOD.

If you're looking for EXP, and if you can cast Element shield and magic screen, head for the Mountain Wilderness.

Did you change Difficulty level? The difficulty level may be changed at any time from general option screen.

Nekoshippo - Difficulty level doesn't change what monsters spawn or how much they are worth. It just changes how effective your attacks against them are and their attacks against you are. Novice means it is easier for you to hit them and harder for them to hit you (think of it as a -4 to hit). Normal levels the laying field. Expert gives YOU the minus to hit while making it easier for them to hit you.

At least, that's the theory. I have come to the conclusion that in any other game, the 'novice' setting from Wiz 8 would be 'Normal' and 'Normal' would be 'Expert'. Anyone want to come up with a term for the 'Expert' mode?

Jem,

I tend to agree with you. So a name for 'Expert' might be, um, 'Thyymt' ('They hit you; you miss them').

If you have no qualms about temporarily cheating, here is what you can do:

In the game, note down the level, earned experience, and experience to next level.
Get UGE and put your save file in that directory.
Start that program and search on the right side for the character name.
Below that are a few numbers then there will be 2 entries for the level. You only need to change the first one to maybe half the value.
next do number search for earned experience and make a variable for it and specify the highest range. It will show 4 spaces in red.
Experience next level is right after that, so make a variable for that also at the top range value.
hit Esc to see your input screen.
Change your earned experience to 1000000000.
Change experience next level to a low value such as 200000.
Hit Esc till it tells you to hit a certain letter. After doing that, click the upper right corner X to close the program.
Copy the save file back to the game save directory.
Start the game and you have the character leveling up several times as yu choose different attributes between each leveling.

I made it through by the skin of my teeth, then got the idea of seeing whether or not the W8 saves work in UGE, and of course they do.
I'm playing through a second time with super, uber, or whatever you want to call the characters. I won't tell you what the levels are because you all would probably refuse to talk to me anymore!

George, what's the "temporary" part of this cheating (such an ugly word)?
