I just tried the retro-dungeon near the cemetary.
I got whacked, but good! Fire breathing monsters and I never had a chance. What level is recommended? I'm about level 11. Is it possible to do a little bit of it and leave? Or are you committed once you go in?

Unless you can portal out you're going to need the ability to open a 6-cylinder lock IIRC, which is some indication of the level you need to be ... I saved, peeked inside, got the fright of my life and never went back my party was 9/10 at the time, 4-casters/ranger/rogue, figured they'd need to be 13+ to survive, a melee party may fare better.

It seems to me I was about 11/12 going into the Cemetery one and it's the easiest of the three monster-wise. I went in with 3 knockpicks and I remember wondering if I was going to make it out when I started encountering 8-cylinder locks.
Basically just rest and heal between battles - no new monsters spawn in closed rooms so you are safe once you close the door behind you.

I've just finished it. I'm level 10 all around and didn't encounter any fire breathing anythings. On the 6-8 cylinder locks, I cast knock-knock at level 6 or something and had at most 3 cylinders to undo with my bard and it didn't take that long.
We are talking about the cemetery one right? *spoiler* The last room had the ghost of Englund and about 8 trynnie ghosts. The other mobs that I ran into that gave me some trouble were ones that could insta-kill party members, but I save after every battle and at most I had to do one battle 3 times. Other than that, rats, swallowers(?), and the like weren't a big deal. This brings up a good point because a friend of mine who was playing before I got the game told me to take my time in the monastary because he got his butt kicked on the way to Arnika and had to turn around. Well, being impatient, I started to Arnika as soon as possible and had no problems at all with the Higardi bandits. He turns to me and says 'Man, the plants and wasps really gave me heck'. I said 'What plants and wasps?' It wasn't until I went to Trynton that I encountered those things. So I guess random encounters are just that. Random. |

I can attest to the random encounter opinion. The first two or three times I went in there my first battle was with those fire-breathing guys that are way mean when you're around 9th to 10th level (had to reload). I decided to come back later. After Trynton I returned to find that the fire-breathers were nowhere in sight. The other battles turned out to be more than manageable. I enjoyed the dungeon, but don't bother if you're looking for it to be lucrative. I didn't find anything too exciting, but again, maybe it's just random.

jg, they are "nibblers". Haven't seen them anywhere else. There so cute when they're small! Then you meet their dad, the swallower. (I also like those mites, remind me of my pesky cats). I don't recommend this dungeon unless you are level 11 or higher, same with the other retro dungeons. You definitely need lock pick and/or picks to leave the cemetary dung. I've heard people can get stuck there, no way out with the current skills. Keep recent and older saves, just in case!
