My group jus finished Bayjin. It has 4 hybrids and 2 bishops - 1 Samurai, 1 monk, 1 ranger, and 1 ninja. Since I did not neglect adding to their magical powers, the 4 hybrid fighters are now pretty powerful spell castors. Add in the awesome spell throwing capabilities of my 2 bishops and the party flat out rocks!
My latest encounter had my engaging in spell battle with a bunch of 6 Rynjin sentries (level 15) and 3 Rynjin empaths (level 18) at long range. Round 1: soul shield, noxious fumes, crush, firestorm, firebomb, fireball. Round 2, fireball, 2 firebombs, haste, 2 crush... round 3: ... errr, nobody left for round 3, the firestorm killed whoever was left after round 2! This group (at level 20/21) is an extremely fun group to play and I am purposely taking my time to explore everywhere. My next plan is to take them on the long route across the mountain wilderness to get to rapax rift. I actually like the encounter system that scales up according to our level cos no fight is a push over. And you gotta love having 5 people that can cast the portal spell. (very soon, I may have 6!) So, people, if you want a party that flat out rocks at the mid to late stages, go for an all hybrid party. It also shortens the fighting time cos battles end in just a few rounds. There is no need to go into movement mode and let the monsters take cheap potshots at you. Just blast them to death where they stand!

My current team is also 4 hybrids, 1 bishop and 1 Fighter
Samurai, Ranger, Lord and Valkyrie. I do not like monks and ninjas because of the so many restrictions upon their armor, but that's just me.

One of my favorite groups consisted of a samurai, monk, lord, ranger, bishop and gadgeteer. Gave me two characters from each spell discipline, which was definitely nice. I ended up ditching it due to poor management of my bishop's stats (really low speed and senses, so he was ridiculously slow compared to all the rest who were pumping one or the other religiously) and because I wanted to try something different.
I also just started a 4-person hybrid party: samurai, monk, valkyrie and ninja, with the sam and valk switched to ninja at level 2 and will switch back at level 3 after my stealth is decent. I'm really looking forward to this one. (And not just because I don't have to run to Arnika to outfit my bishop with spells). Cheers! -- C |
