On a cliff along the seashore there's a large pole, jammed in the rocks, with a rope dangling towards the water. What's it for?

George,
Welcome to the board!

The fishing pole is a way out of the sea. There is a way to fall into the sea and a couple of minor items down there. If you do manage to fall in you will need to use the fishing pole to climb out.

So you end up being the big fish that got away. I imagine there are trynnies telling all kinds of stories you and how you got away.

Arrrrr. Avast ye' maties. Thar's big fish in that water!

Actually that pole is great. Go in and out of Trynton along the cliff. You run into a major problem that you can't handle. Like a large squad of Rapax, plus a bunch of Crimson Poppies and some Barf Weeds (or whatever they're called) and you're tired and half beat up from the trip from Arnika just jump in the stream and over the falls.

No damage. You can rest in the surf. Plus there are a few nice items down there.

Thanks everyone. On a later trip through Trynton, found the falls and went over. Yup, the fishine pole got me out. Also, a bit down the north side of the main tree, there's a dangling rope at the alternate access to the Ratkin Tree. GREAT!

A little side comment (guess should have made new post for this one.)
A trainer was written for the original version of W8, or was it the demo? In it you could kill enemies. Since this is possible in a trainer, shouldn't there be a console line to type in killall or whatever. Assuming a console line is possible, or am I asking too much? The reason I am on to this, I have painstakingly increased each party member's stats through lots and lots of encounters. Seems that the higher your stats, the more often enemies spawn. It get really aggravating and I set it to auto and just walk away till the fighting is over. I have all the time in the world, but hey fellow gamers, it's quite boring just fighting, fighting, fighting. Wish there was a GOD key!
