In Baldur's Gate, each monster has a specific EXP; and once killed, this EXP is equally divided among the party members. If there were 6 in the party then each member gets 1/6 of the EXP; if there were only 2 in the party then each one gets 1/2 EXP.

How is EXP in Wizardry distributed?

In Baldur's Gate, I learned that to level up fast is to have as less party member as possible. Likewise, I sure dont like to have extra party members in Wizardry 8 only to find out that: they suck big time, and they hog EXP points that I would be better off not having them in the party.

If however, EXP is NOT divided among the members as I have said above, then It would be great to recruit everyone in W8.

Exactly as you just described. Monster EXP is divided by 6 if you have 6 character, by 8 if you have 6 characters + 2 RPCs and so on.

The quest reward XP, AFAIK, is a fix amount to each party member, no matter the number of characters.

Just like BG, though, 95%+ of the XP comes from kills.

The thing I like about Wiz 8 is that if some friendly mob took out something you are fighting then you still get the xp. I remember in some other games I would get some big monster to near death and then have something take the xp away from me.

Ah. I wondered about that when I was in Arnika, fighting off some monsters, and the patrol group came up and started hacking on 'em. Good to know I didn't lose any XP there.

Although it's worth noting that XP doesn't quite work that way... It isn't 1/(number of characters + RPCs), it's 1/(number of characters + RPCs that are alive). If someone is dead at the end of combat, they don't get any XP, and the XP everyone else gets goes up proportionally.

I'll go ahead and throw this out there since the comment was made about leveling up faster with less people.. If you're starting out the game, you may want to hold off on leveling past level 5 or so (from what I've heard other people saying), particularly if you have a small party. You still gain exp normally and unused level-ups stack.. But moster levels are based on character level (up to a certain point - areas seem to have individual level caps from what I understand) so if you end up level 8 in the monestary with a 2 person party, the monsters are going to start stomping you fairly well. Most people suggest getting to Arnika at a fairly low level so you can get better equipment and whatnot..

Great.

Now All i have to do is decide whether recruiting Myles and/or Vi (im still in arnika) would be a good idea. I sure dont want extra bagages that would only leech EXP.

I am not sure if any recruitables would be that loyal to stick to the end. To those who played BG Shadow of Amm, Yoshimo betrayed the group. In my 1st outing of that game, I invested some 2,000,000 EXP on yoshimo only to find out he would betray the party and hence, if I did not recruit him, those 2,000,000 EXP would do nicely to level up the other 5 members - 400,000 exp each would spell a level or two..

Oh well... play and have fun is all there is.. hehe...

jsteng:

I might as well mention this. In BG2 most of the enemies/encounters in the different areas were set and random encounters were scarce so experience was somewhat limited. In Wizardry 8 there are numerous random encounters and enemies respawn after a while, so there's no shortage of experience, so if that's all that worries you regarding having temporary characters don't let it stop you from recruiting them.

i agree with runiel.

there is SO much experience in this game to be had that it's definitely NO PROBLEM keeping 8 people leveling up constantly. one of my groups is Lvl 36 ish, and even with the big gap between levels (just like BG2, as we seem to be comparing the two here) the "white crosses" still keep popping up regularly.

so, you really should utilize them. in the first part of the game, they help keep you alive, amd afterwards, they are just plain fun as they come into their own (personalities, and skills).

OMG! The Blonde Brigade is at 36! Wow, I still remember when they were wee babes in the woods screaming and running away at the sight of softshell crabs. Nice going!
