To solve it, I just kept turning the 3 gizmos to get to Rafe. Maybe I was lucky, but it didn't take long. I also had my best safe cracker doing it, of course. Just keep clicking and don't repeat yerself.

If you are talking about the Rapex rift you need to find the Staff of Ash to save him the other prisoners in the rift are freed by opening a switchnear the bedroom area..Hope this helps...John

If you mean the one with the three circular dials that you can turn to diffrent positions, I am not sure that the code was written anywhere. I don't remember seeing those symbols anywhere else. What I did was test them in a logical order, it wasn't long untill I found the right combination.
For example, if each dial has 4 settings (1 through 4), you could try: 1 1 1 2 1 1 3 1 1 4 1 1 1 2 1 1 3 1 1 4 1 1 1 2 1 1 3 1 1 4 etc, etc. The dials are easy to turn and when you get the solution it opens the door right away, so you can go pretty fast. Avoiding duplicate combinations, it shouldn't take you too long to find the key. Good luck!

I never found any in-game clues for this but there is something that I sort of deducted after glancing at it a couple of times.
If you'll notice the dials have symbols on them. Taking a closer look at the symbols you'll notice that they represent various creatures. The first represents a Rapax, the second, a scorcher, and the third, a phoenix. Then you'll notice that each dial can be turned in three directions. Each direction is labeled with a symbol. The "puzzle" lies in matching up the symbols on the dials with the correct corresponding symbol (choose one of the directional symbols for each dial). If you want the exact combination, keep reading. SPOILER . . . . . . . . . . . . . The combination is as follows: Rapax - Volcano Scorcher - Fire Pheonix - Sun
