Greetings!

I'm a new poster, but I've read a number of messages and really like the personalities of the people who post here. I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Here's my question (WITH SPOILER!!):

Cane of Corpus woes!

I killed Don Barlone - losing my level 9 lord in the process - but I Lazarused her before the end of the battle so she could share in the experience points.

I was dismayed when the Don didn't drop the Cane of Corpus ("C of C"). The C of C was the only reason I tolerated sheltering this worthless fairy ninja for nine levels.

I read somewhere that the game allocates random items to chests and NPCs when you enter a new area for the first time.

QUESTION: Should I reload right before entering the Rattkin Tree for the first time and slaughter the Don again?

I tried picking the Don's pockets several times before I Luca Brasied him, but I got nothing. I'll never waste another point on the pickpocket skill (not with the new patch, anyways)!

I'd really appreciate any advice you could give.

Thanks!

D.I.

By the way, I loved the voice acting for the Don. Although his voice was understated and not overtly threatening, I could feel the subtle power just under the surface. It was a perfect evil genius voice.

Also, I can't believe the Trynnies ever had time to build a culture and all those elaborate treehouses while constantly fighting off relentless attacks froms the sprites, saplings, wasps, bats and Rapax! Poor little doomed chipmunks... I'd give each one a hug if I didn't think they'd pick my pockets.

I have not tried this from Don (but I am on my way back to kill him) - but I just wanted to say that whole bit about the Trynnies, and then about the hug comment... I actually started laughing here at work! Amazing, considering I am dealing with 300+ calls holding... Just wanted to say thanks for the laugh!

I'm glad you got a laugh out of that remark Vaprakgruumsh!

I think I stumbled into the answer to my question on another board.

Someone wrote that you should save your game right before attacking Don Barlone. If the Don doesn't drop the C of C after you whack him, just reload and rest until the next day before attacking. Supposedly, his inventory changes every day.

If you whack him on day 2, and he still doesn't drop the C of C, simply reload and rest for 2 days before attacking.

Can anybody confirm this method, or is the original idea (to reload before my first entry into the rattkin tree) the right course?

Thanks!
D.I.

Yeah, that should work. It won't be a save before entereing area thing like Davy Jones Locker. Of course, some of us just think - what would I get if I pickpocketed the Don - oooh look, first dip gets the CoC - I am sheltering a faery this time through, but I have been developing her as a Bard initially - just about to convert her to Ninja at Arnika.

It worked!

I got the C of C last night - after slaugtering the Don and his toady in a few rounds with a level 9 party. This time I went in prepared with superman potions.

All I did was rest three times (24 hours) and the Don's inventory changed to include the C of C.

I see there are other people looking for the C of C. Give this a shot!

~~diplomatic immunity~~

that technique is an oldie but goodie.

so, keep it in your bag of tricks. nearly every major baddie, and special chests can be treated in that manner.
