Well, I just finished and decided to come back by the board to find out all the little things I had missed, such as where all the good weapons are hiding. To my horror and disgust, they weren't hiding anywhere, I had been to all the chests that could contain them and the only good weapon I ever found was the Muramasa blade. Overall, it was a good game, but after playing 7 and being used to finding all the best weapons hidden along the way, finishing 8 and having my party decked out in expensive, mediocre items purchased from Ferro left me with an empty fealing. I had really hoped to come here and read about entire sections of the game which I had missed, and how all the good items were sitting behind powerful Gorrors there. But instead, all I missed was the cemetary dungeon (though this does sound really cool) and all the items are just a toss of a coin.

Really?! I have found some cool weapons already and I am not anywhere near done... I've done Monestary, Arnika Road, Arnika, Trynton, Swamp, Wilderness... and through those have found some very nice weapons... (heck, right now I'd trade in most of what I own if I could just get one simple spider silk)!

I guess I should qualify what I mean by cool weapons: I never got Excalibur, the Zatachio (sp?) Bo, Maened's Lance, The Light Sword, The light Shield, Phronteir Phasors, ect. The best weapons are just too unlikely too get unless you cheat. It just kinda bugged me, so I wanted to rant.

· Excalibur

For this one, I heard that it is very difficult to get since it's random.

· Zatachio (sp?) Bo

I have not heard of this one...

· Maened's Lance

This sounds very familiar... came across (someone)'s Scimitar... can't recall the name. Didn't seem so special. Not better than the poison dagger my rogue is already using.

· The Light Sword

This, I have actually come across.

· The light Shield

I have not come across or heard of this one, according to memory.

· Phronteir Phasors

Heh, phasors? Not heard of this one too.

Where did ya get all this info?

There are some cool weapons in game. Frankly, I'm shocked that you didn't find or receive any.
Spoilers Ahead.

Excalibur: I found this in Davy Jones' Locker, after killing Nessie. As for whether this is random or not, perhaps it is, and we've just been lucky, but both me, and my boyfriend have always found it there in our games.

Zataichi Bo: I found this in the Rapax Castle. There are three deposit slips that you can find in the Constable's Office (you have to pickpocket his key off of him though) that can be turned in at the King's Treasury. One of them gets you the Zataichi Bo.

Frontier Phasers (or however you spell it ): I have yet to get this, but my boyfriend has. He got his from Jan-Ette (the dying Helazoid prisoner in Bayjin), or rather the bag that she drops when she dies. This obviously is random - because I never got it.

As for Maenad's Lance, the Light Sword, and the Light Shield - they continue to evade me. There are plenty of other good items that I haven't listed here though.

There are a lot of good items that can be found, there was a link to a full item list in one of the other posts. I just wish they weren't so random. Davy Jone's locker contained spell books and a chain mail for me. Jan Ette dropped an Ebony Heaume, which isn't that great when you can buy an infinity helm from Ferro. I didn't do a lot of PP so I did't get the Zataichi Bo. I just think some of the nicer items could have been given a bit higher chance to show up.

Does the difficulty setting have anything to do with item drops? I was set on expert the entire game, does anyone know if this lowers the chances of getting good items?

I don't think the setting has anything to do with it, I think it's random.

As for not PPing... man, that is your problem right there! Your rogue/ninja/whatever has that skill for a reason! Use it.

If anything I've noticed better (higher quality) drops in my Expert game than I did in my Normal game, but I'm going to go with Vap and agree that it's probably just random.

The random bit is a little bit annoying at times, especially when you know what you're missing. However, alot of the items (not all though) seem to be duplicated on NPCs, so that if you pickpocket, you increase your chances of getting some of them. Of course, what items each NPC has seems to be random as well (no idea how it works with the new patch, I kind of glimpsed over the changes and decided not to patch until I've finished with my current game, I like my pickpocket. ).

I'm with Nydlari on this one. I got almost nothing of interest (I'm not a big save and reload guy, which surely costs me, but I just can't justify fighting a long, long battle, finally winning, opening the chest and finding a pointed stick -2 (so to speak) and then doing it all over again on the hope that this time I *might* not get shafted. Because, of course, I probably will, and then I'll have to do it again.)

It's a game -- I want to try out all the goodies. If they're going to be randomized, why not randomize them for all locations? How would the Monastery look if you pulled something really sexy out of that first chest?

I agree, the randomness of the best items sucks big time.

For what it is worth, here are those I found:
* Light Shield: On Nessie's map, dropped by one of the undead near the sunken ship!
* Frontier Phaser: Same as above !
* Zatoichi Bo: Upper Rapax Castle

Anyway, I think it is worth mentionning that those undead near the sunken ship are a 4 th source of unique stuff, besides DJ Locker, Upper Rapax and Jan-ette.
